G'mornin Everyone,

From what I read here it seems that tapering down from pred seems to be a difficult thing. Is it difficult for everyone?

Right now I'm on a six week course of Entocort, and am taking 3 capsules each morning. My schedule is 3 each morning for 4 weeks, and then down to 2 each morning for another two weeks, and then down to 1 and then off.

I know Entocort isn't exactly the same as pred, but am I going to have difficulty doing this taper? I'm a huge baby and fuss and moan about basically everything that has to do with meds. The only times I have been on pred is when I was in hospital...and a 4 day course the last time I got out of the hospital.

I'm also taking 6 Asacol a day along with the Entocort. Anyway, is there something I can do to beef up my system before dropping the Entocort? I'm currently taking probiotics, fishy oils, l-glutamine, digestive enzymes, a multi and a blob of coconut oil in my morning cereal. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I am currently on prednisone and have a difficult time weaning off. but a few years back when they were trying entocort, i got off of it just fine. Just out of curiosity, why are they weaning you off entocort? As far as i know there are no long term side effects and I don't remember gaining weight or getting the moon face on entocort. If you can manage your disease with just the entocort, i would suggest staying on it. I went off my pills because i was feeling so good, had a baby and now i cant stop flaring. Nine months later (and 40 pounds heavier) I am still on prednisone and cant seem to get off it.

Hope that answers your question. Good luck and get feeling better!!

I have no idea why I'm tapering the Entocort. Maybe because I'm skinny as a rake and my GI feels sorry for me? Or perhaps I'm on it to kick-start a remission while the Asacol takes effect? I wasn't on any meds before I had my last flare two months ago. I was supposed to be on Asacol from five years ago, but I quit taking them. Lesson learned? Knowing me, probably least not the amount my doc wants me to take. The stuff bungs up my muscles.

I have never had a problem weaning off Pred. I think its depends on the person. But I have had this dd for almost 33 years, and everytime I have used Pred I took up as prescribed and weaned off without in problems. I did even better on Entocort.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.
