Hello to everyone!  I am looking forward to chatting with you all.  I was diagnosed with CD in June of this year and have been out of work since then.  Has anyone had any luck with filing for disability?  I just found out today, by email, that my FMLA ran out as of Sunday and I am no longer employed.  I have been employed by this company for eight years and thought someone would have contacted me in some other way than just email to inform me of this.  I have mixed feelings, trying to keep my head up and not get stressed out worrying about everything.  Any helpful hints will be truely appreciated.

Welcome to HW! You have come to the right place to get help. I don't have any knowledge of this, but I'm sure someone will be along soon that does. Take care.

You should really contact your company's Human Resources department and have a nice long conversation with them.
I am currently out of work right now as well, for about 4 weeks so far. FMLA is a government law to protect just this from happening, and you can't be discriminated against due to a medical situation. FMLA only protects illegal acts such as discriminatory firings, though. You should also have filed for Short Term or Long Term disability in addition to the FMLA protection. This is what will keep you paid and in a job.
Each company is different with is policies, so I suggest getting a copy of your company's Employee Handbook, and any other policy documents that might help you out.
I wish you the best, and hope for you to have financial security as well as physical recovery.

Thanks for the welcome, Chroniemomx2 and thank you Marc.  I wish I had known about filing for short term or long term disability when this all began.  I have been on FMLA websites trying to get more information but, have yet to find anything concerning my situation.  I hope both of you are doing well.

Welcome! This is a great group of people! You will find so much comfort with them and they are full of info! I'm sorry that I am still learning and can't offer much information. I will certainly keep you in my thoughts and prayers though! My daughter was in the ER last night and it was suggested to file for disability for her. Best of luck to you!

Hi and welcome!! I'm sorry to hear you lost your job. That is so awful!! Yes I would think your job would contact you before this all happened.
FMLA is just to protect your job while you are out and yes you really need to know and keep tract of when it runs out. My company sends a letter telling me how much time I have and when I need to return back to work. We get 12 weeks of short term disablity and then it goes into long term if still under doctors care. IF your doctor hasn't ok you to return back to work, I would definitely call your HR department.
I'm sorry and good luck!!! This is a great place with a lot of helpful people!

Thank you all so much for the welcomes and replies.  This site has really been wonderful and I LOVE the fact that I am talking to people from places I can only dream of visiting.  Everyone is so nice and supportive.  I will definitely be contacting the company HR department about the Long Term disability leave.  That has never been mentioned to me by them.  I feel, like I'm sure so many of you do, that the company I worked for does not understand the seriousness of CD and probably really don't care.  I have been very fortunate in having great support and understanding from my two sons, family members and a wonderful best friend (I'm proud to say we have been friends since high school and will not say how long ago that was!  LOL)  I do have alot to be thankful for (and try to remind myself of that daily) and there are so many of you that have it alot worse than I do and my thoughts and prayers go out to you.  Thank you all for the support and God bless you all!!  One of my favorite sayings is "If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it."  I, we, just have to keep the faith and practice what I preach!
