Does anyone else have leg issues?  My legs hurt after walking very short distances.  If I have to walk up a flight of stairs they are burning and feel like jelly.

Same here. Of course I had no muscle in mine for a while due to complications this past summer not enabling me to eat or use most of my body for an extended period of time so I know 95% why mine feel the way that they do. Just building them back slowly. The fact that my apartment is on the second floor helps heh.
At the same time it's not just the muscles for me. It's also the bones that ache. My shins hurt the most at the end of the day, and it feels like my calves are filled with fluid. I'm a little curious about that one.
Which part of your legs are hurting exactly? You don't have arthritis by any chance?

Due to start Imuran September 17 depending on blood results.

It's good to know it's not just me.  My family doctor has told me that I will end up with arthritis, so yeah my knees hurting is probably just that.  What worries me I guess is my calves and thighs hurting after so little walking.   I find myself just slowing down and grabbing the rail as I go up stairs.

I  have to tell you that I am sorry you have to walk up two flights of stairs.  I recently looked at a house with an upstairs and I have to tell you that it was a point against buying the home.

There was actually a study done (cannot remember where or when I saw it now) that people with crohn's have weaker muscle strenght particularly in their legs...you'd think they'd be stronger with all the "running to the can" we do...

It's a good idea to get your potassium levels checked if you're having any mobility/pain issues with them though.

Hi Hm,

My thigh muscles were feeling weak and achy, but at a recent annual physical my Doc told me my vitamin D levels were quite low. I've been taking the 2000 i.u. my Doctor suggested and after 2 months I am much, much better. I go for a follow-up blood test in 2 weeks. I suggest you ask you Doc about vitamin D levels.

Also, what is this about your Doctor saying you will end up getting arthritis? That is not a foregone conclusion with CD. This disease expresses itself very differently in people. So until you actually get arthitis, you don't have it! Don't worry about what you may never get!

Take care!
Diagnosed early 2007 with rectal Crohn's.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulas with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP.

Actually . . . low iron caused similar symptoms for me.

Arthritis doesn't cause burning leg muscles or make them feel like jelly . . . that sounds like weakness.

Has your iron/hemoglobin been checked recently?

Blessings!

I've been wondering what the problem is for me my legs hurt and by the end of the day I can hardly walk to bed. I've seen a doctor for arthritis and I did not have any. My feet and ankles hurt so bad. It seems to be getting worse for me. I take all the vit.. and potassium, but its to the point I use a wheelchair when I go to walmart. My kids hate waiting for me so its faster. I haven't figured out who to see.

Hi Dawn,

I took daily vitamins too and was surprised when my Doctor said my vitamin D levels were quite low. Have you had blood test done recently?

I am having a lot of problems with weakness with this most recent flare. I describe it more like walking through quicksand. It is like my legs are weighted down and the effort it takes to move them is exausting.
Dx with Crohn's in 1997 after 5 years of worsening symptoms.
Resection a few months after dx after 1 month on TPN and IV steroids.
Also have severe asthma.

Tried: Pentasa, Cholestyramine

Presently taking: 3.2 grams Asacol, 150 Imuran (just started June 08), now on 20 mg prednisone, probiotics. For asthma I take Advair 500, singulair, arieus

fallcolors , I know its not vit-d I just had mayo do all kinds of tests , they were the ones to find out that my vit-b was low and put me on shots. I've been to arthritis specialist so I know its not that .I think it might be something like fibermialga, I don't know for sure but if I'm on my feet to much its hard to walk anywhere that night. I'm not sure who to talk to about the problem. shocked
