Do any of you have spotting/bleeding the day after intercourse? I had some symptoms of a fistula in the past.  Saw my GI, my PCP, and my gyno.  Had a very thorough exam, no fistula.  I looked "irritated" down there but had no std's or infections.  She said the skin between the back of my vagina and my rectum is very very thin.  But, no fistula.  I told her that during intercourse I often get an uncomfortable feeling like I really have to pee, or like it just is completely in the wrong spot, when its not.  She said everything was fine but that I had a tilted uterus or something which made it a little hard to get "in there" doing the exam.  I've tried every position known to the karma sutra.  Some are more comfortable than others and it all seems to depend on the day.  But more often than not I am sore the next day and have a little blood that looks like period blood.  Doc made some comment about if my husband is well endowed he might be hitting my cervix or something causing it to shed like a period.  But I just can't accept that everything is "ok."  I was sexually active long before crohns and NEVER had this problem.  Never had pain, never felt like I was being torn open, and never bled after.  And it was also with my now husband so it can't just be his well endowment.  Is it a crohns thing? Could it be my birth control? But I've been on bc for a long time too.  It's always something.

I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

No sorry..I've never had any sort of spotting except the kind related to pregnancy. It does hurt sometimes afterward though like a pretty bad burning sensation. Of course it's exacerbated by the obligatory urination post-intercourse to prevent infection so...I'm not sure if mine has just been due to dehydration and/or shall we say um..certain physical features of my fiance coupled with the fact that I am a small person in the first place.
I wish I could help you, but I really don't know what that could be..

Hi Fitzy,
I too have similar problems. Let me preface this with before I was diagnosed with crohn's I was dx with endometriosis. I was on the bcp for many years w/out any problems before I was dx with crohn's. So here's my theory as to what is going on...I have asked both my GI and Gyn and both said that it is plausible...I believe that as with everything I put in my mouth the bcp moves through my system faster than it should thus I am not absorbing the proper amount of hormones. So my uterine lining is more unstable so intercouse causes bleeding. However with that being said bleeding after intercourse is also a symptom of endometriosis. There is research that has found women with endometriosis have a higher incedence of autoimmune disorders. I am sure that the opposite may be true. I recently changed bcp that was still low dose but slightly higher than my old one and it has worked..no more break through bleeding.

Fitzy, years ago I was told my uterus was tilted, and that was part of the reason I had a a very hard time getting pregnant. Nowadays I do, once in awhile, have a little bleeding after intercourse. Usually when it's been pretty vigorous. Usually if I get the bleeding or discomfort, it turns out to be a yeast infection, but surely your doc would have discovered that. Also, the older I get the thinner my skin is, tears easily, and bruises easily, on my arms and legs, but sometimes the vagina also, but, I'm 35 years older than you! Dont't think you should be having these problems so early. Maybe you could get a second opinion from another gyn.

I used to have those problems, pain and irritation with some minor bleeding. My gyno told me I was slightly allergic to my husband's sperm. I thought that was crazy, but then it stopped after my hubby had a vasectomy, so I guess my gyno was right. I haven't had a problem in years. Maybe with your system so overtaxed from crohn's you've developed an allergy or intolerance too!

Hi Fitzy,

Sounds too simple . . . but have you tried a feminine lubricant? It might help rule out an irritation thing. Sorry your having trouble . . .

Blessings!

Ok, this is weird, I have a tilted uterus too. Is this some weird CD connection. I couldn't get pregnant the second time until we changed positions. But back to the point. I bleed sometimes after sex too. But I do have a fistula, but one that the doctors haven't found. When it started, maybe 6 or 7 years ago, it was painful and irritated. My Gyno at the time did a cursory exam and couldn't find it, so it "didn't" exist. (One of the reasons, that doctor is no longer MY doctor) Since then, it basically became permanent, but no longer causes pain. I know it is still there, because I pass gas and occasionally fecal matter, and that is unmistakable. Every time I have mentioned it to my current doctors, they are uninterested in doing any further testing to find it, so basically they just assume I am nuts. But my point is, just because they say you don't have a fistula doesn't mean you don't. Or it could just be really thin skin. I live with my issue, cause it really doesn't bother me that much. But if it bothers you, then you should pursue it. I wish I had, before it had become permanent for me, but at this point, I don't think there is much that can be done for mine, so I'll deal with it. Only you can decide how aggressive you want to be in asking for testing.

Ever since I started tapering down from 100mg of Prednisone Ive noticed spotting.  Its really odd.  Sometimes its constant, then it stops for a few days, then starts back up...then its gone for a week...then comes back.  I'm not sure if its from intercourse, or a side effect of the prednisone. I asked my PCP and she said it could be a side effect, then I asked my GI and he said he wasnt sure...
