I used to have a bad eating disorder for almost 10 years.... then I got crohns and that wasnt really an option anymore; and i was wondering if i was the only one this happened too. Whenever I eat over about a day my stomach goes out about 2 inches and it looks like i've gained almost 20 lbs! Then about every second day Ill get this huge urge out of nowhere (usually after walking somewhere) that I HAVE to go and I take record a breaking-ly massive poop! And after which my foodbaby is gone and it looks like ive lost 20 lbs in about 8 seconds, and I usually feel a lot better afterwards. Does this happen to anyone else? I think it may be because im on a low residue diet right now (even though I dont have a stricture) and my digestive system isnt really getting any go go fiber. Thoughts?

Well I don't know about 20lbs but I do know that my stomach swells up massively on a fairly regular basis.  So much so that I can't comfortably fit into clothes that I wore the day before.  I don't know why it happens since it is not gas or anything just swelling and some pain.  However, my husband swears that his pants are looser after he poops.  I guess if you are really really skinny it could make a difference too.

I had anorexia for a little while heh. Definitely won't take having a little weight for granted now.
My stomach size tends to fluctuate a lot too. It's extremely frustrating because I hate looking pregnant...

Every morning when I get up my tummy looks like a pancake. If I stand sideways it's frightening. As the day goes on and I eat and drink, I fill out a little more and it's not so scary.

i knew something was wrong with me, like maybe i had colitis or chrons when i noticed that my flat belly, always looked distended like i was pregnant yet the rest of me was thin o and of course the pain and gas!..which is a ***** to try to wear jeans!! they fit everywhere fine except on my bloated and painful belly..i would have to unbutton them when i sat down..they fit fine everywhere else but..now that i have chrons and have lost 20 pounds (i was thin to begin with!!), i still have that stupid pregnant belly...its gotta be from the inflammation..im hoping that once my chrons is in total remission or atleast more in control that the swelling goes down...it makes wearing pants difficult to do!! :( lol

I get really swollen too!  I start out the day where my stomach is nice and flat and normal.  If I eat anything, even liquid stuff like ensure, even if it's just a small amount like 8oz of food, my stomach gets all puffed up and I look semi-pregnant and my stomach feels really sore.  Eventually I will get a sudden really strong urge to run to the bathroom and my stomach will get much much smaller and it will hurt way less after having #2 escape.

I somehow get swollen even from drinking nothing but water, not sure what's up with that.  It's also weird because my stomach takes a couple hours to deflate even after I went pee :(

They need to make more drawstring pants :P

I second the drawstring pants! I get bloated after I eat too, hence the screen name. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to eat!

And what about solutions to reduce that?? And what causes it?
I had surgery in the abdomen so I can understand partially why mine happens, and then there is the possibility of a slight obstruction off and on, and then the standard bloating. Bloating can't be the only factor in why a stomach looks so huge can it??

What you describe is normal and exactly what happens to me.  My waist size can change 2 inches during a day.
Due to Crohn's scarring, my intestinal opening just isn't very large & things back up.  Combine that with the Crohn's tendancy towards gas bloating and my belly gets bigger.  Like you, I will eventually have a big bowel movement & everything empties out & my waist is much smaller.  Not really much I can do about it since it is scar tissue.

ive had no surgery thank god but in the morning my stomach is nice and flat. As soon as i eat i look about 4 months pregnant for the rest of the day.
It gets me very down as i always get people asking me "when are you due"?
Seriously some people are so bad mannered. I would never ask a lady if she was pregnant unless i could actually see the babies head coming out!!!!

Hi there,

I have not yet been diagnosed with anything, however, i experience the same thing, my stomach was flat the other day, and i had a raspberry bar or something, that wasnt too big at all, and my stomach swelled to the point where i looked like i was 4 months pregnant, my friend could not believe it.

I have lost about 45 pounds, and still losing as we speak, i sure hope they find out whats wrong soon, as i have no ass left lol, and im fading away..........

both colonoscopy, and small bowel follow through showed nothing, but the doc suggested that i have another test in which they stick a tube down my throat under sedation, does anyone know what this test is called? its suppose to be more clear, and 3d like, so they can get a better overview, and look.

thanks again......

kelly

So I actually just remembered a funny story about this. My stomach used to bloat to ridiculous measures starting in late highschool. One morning while getting dressed for school I completely blew up and freaked out because I could not fit into any of my pants. I wound up breaking down into tears and having a bit of a tantrum (what do you expect of a 16 year old). My mother came into my room and was like "OMG are you pregnant??!!!!"...."Look at your stomach you are pregnant!!!"...she then proceeded to chase me around the house demanding the truth about a "pregnancy". I was laughing at her because I knew I was not prego and that my stomach was just swollen for some unknown reason. At the time it annoyed me but now I just laugh about it. You would think she would have gotten me an appointment at the doctor after seeing that but alas that did not happen. Now 14 years later my stomach still blows up and I actually wish I could get pregnant.

****, that is a funny story, im sorry that you cant get pregnant though,
does this also have to do with your diagnosis?
i have had one child, and not sure wether im going to have anymore, maybe one more, but my boyfriend has a daughter and she is 2 and a half, i dont plan right now on having more children, especially because of my health and condition,
thanks again for sharing your story, take care
