After 4 weeks of a sinus infection, 2 go rounds of antibiotics, that didn't work, and trying prednisone and some nasal flushing, I'm getting worse! So I finally heard back from my ENT late yesterday and got a 4 week course of levaquin. Within an hour of taking the first pill, I was having trouble breathing. Later on I was nauseous and throwing up. I finally figured out to take some benedryl and the breathing got better. This morning, my sinus' actually feel a little better, but I'm scared to take another dose.

Technically I shouldn't take it until late afternoon, but its Friday and if I'm going to take it, I don't want to wait until 5 on Friday. My husband thinks its all in my head. I had a respiratory reaction to amoxicillian in December and am terrified of antibiotics now. So, do I take another dose, with benedryl standing by, and my daughter's epi pen and take the chance that I don't end up in the ER or call the doctor (it took 3 days to hear back last time). I'm just afraid I'll call and finally hear back at the end of the day, she'll tell me to take one more dose and I'll be right where I don't want to be, in the ER on Friday night. Am I crazy for even thinking about taking a dose?

I don't think you should take another dose without speaking to your doctor first. I know with bee stings, if you're allergic, you may not know until the second sting. So maybe medications are similar in that regard... While you're waiting to hear back from your doctor, you could call your pharmacist for advice. I hope all goes well.

I agree with ski bum - I would NOT take another dose without talking to your doc.

IF you are allergic, the 2nd reaction will be more severe than the first. Please be careful and keep us posted.

Ya, the longer I am up the more I am realizing that my breathing is just not right. It seemed better while I was lying down, but it isn't so I'm calling the doctor. I just am afraid I won't hear back until the end of the day and then it will be, try one more dose, and off to the ER I go. sad

Apparently drug reactions get you an immediate call back!!! My doctor is out today, so another doctor called back within minutes. So now I'm on a new antibiotic, hopefully I won't have a reaction to this one. Slowly but surely I am running out of antibiotics, penicillin, flagyl, and now cipro.

With all the antiB's, I hope you're taking probiotics, or at the very least eating yogurt and taking acidophilus.
