So my day would not have been complete without the toilet stopping up and overflowing. What fun, having to play in the mess you just made. My sanctuary became a stanktuary. So I do the old drain cleaner,,,This one said (no odor) Riiiiiiight,,, besides smelling like battery acid ,,it smoked when I poured it in and nope it did nothing..Tried the old plumbers helper,,,,nope,,,,the plumbers snake down the trap...nothing..I have no idea what could stop this thing up. Surely not the loose crap I flushed. Not enough TP to do it either. I finally got a stiff piece of plastic tubing around through the trap and got it to drain slowly..More plunging with the old plumbers helper and a few buckets of boiling water and ,,,,Success..By this time I am in need of a bath . Those little latex gloves helped but you just dont think your hands will ever be clean again. Only good thing was I got it fixed without having to pull the toilet out. Anyway my wife thinks she saw some TP that says it breaks down faster and is better for the septic system. We are going to start looking for a better TP. A kinder gentler TP. Anyone use this product ? Whats the scoop on it ?

the stuff for RV toilets is suppossed to break down more easily. we only used that in our trailer.. i would think that if your toidy is draining, i would think it may be due to the hurricane? my theory, if it was ok before and not now, could the flood waters in the yard have possibly gotten into and filled your tank with muck? or possibly the drain field was compromised by the flood waters? hmmm. normally i would just say your full of crap and let it go but that would be too easy! :0)

That's why my DH banned Charmin from the house. He had to cleanout the pipe leading into the septic tank. I use Angel Soft and flushable wipes when needed.

We used to have issues with ours, but our problem was in the way our house is plumbed (is that even a word?). Our pipes are not angled properly and they would back up. We eventually replaced our toilets with the super flush ones and haven't had too much trouble since.

This clog is in the toilet itself and has to be the paper. We dont even flush Klenex down this one as it has done it before. I think there is a small snag of some kind and the TP hangs up. The drains are all good and we enzyme them to keep them clear. Last time I pulled the toilet out and the drain was clear, the clog, in the goose neck of the toilet was easy to clear out from the other side but remounting a toilet is not my idea of a fun time. Today I bought a small device that is plastic and long flat and flexable. It has teeth on both sides that grab when it is pulled back. Next time it clogs this gizmo should fix it but the trouble is you dont know its clogged until you flush and it runs over. Its like playing roulette. Round and around she goes, will it spill, no body knows...I think the answer may be a TP that breaks down fast.

Nope Rando, I never had one run over on me but almost as bad. I had to rush to the restroom on a trip one time. Just made it in time. I even had to stand in front of the toilet for a last few seconds and really clinch because I knew if I bent at that time I would blast the wall . So I make it to sit down and do my business . When its time to do the paper work I find out that I am sitting on my T shirt tail. Nothing had gone in the bowl it was all in my shirt tail. If you ever go into a restroom and find some poor guy standing shirtless in front of the sink, or drying his shirt under that whimpy excuse for a hand dryer,,,you can guess what happened.

Just in case I have never said it before - I love you guys!!!!!

I can always count on Sniper and Randy to keep me laughing!  I can just see this happening while you tell about it.

BTW Sniper my mom uses Scott TP because it is suppose to breakdown better in the septic system.  BUT, I think it is thin for those of us who use lots of TP.  I guess either way "it" ends up on your hands..................

Oh boy! Two words: POWERFLUSH TOILET! :)

My parents own a plumbing company and I work for them! We use Gerber toilets. They have a toilet that flushes 1250g! Definitely worth the money. I also prefer the ADA or Comfort Height toilets so you don't feel like you are sitting on the ground.

Speaking of toilets, did you guys know they make toilet seats that warm? They are WONDERFUL in the middle of the night when you get woken up by this DD! LOVE LOVE them!

As far as TP, I generally stick with Angel Soft. I like cottenelle the best, but it's just too thick sometimes.

Sniper - Do you have check valve? I'm wondering if the rain water maybe caused some of your problem. It's possible it backed up and by the time you started using the drains again that it flushed on out. I wouldn't think so if you have already flushed this toilet before, but I've seen weirder things happen! If something backed up, it's possible other stuff backed up with it. But, if you have a check valve, it should of kept anything from backing up. I'm impressed with your snaking abilities! :)

(Note - Edited because I was drugged up when I wrote part of that plumbing bid..and realized I meant a CHECK valve and NOT a sewer clean-out! OY! I need to get some sleep this weekend! And, yes, this came to me while I was helping a customer today and I'm just now getting to edit this post! Sorry Sniper!)
