Hello all,  I have an appt with my GP(reg. Dr) tomorrow and I think I will discuss my other options for IBD meds. Not sure how I want to go and scared of all the side effects of all these drugs.
Has anyone been on Imuran?? How did it work for you?? and I was told that Imuran and Endocort might be a good combo. The endocort works quickly until the Imuran kicks in 3-6 months down the road. The only worry I have with Imuran is it being a Immunomodulator and me having a daycare. Should that be a worry???
I am also wondering about Humira or Remicade, are they just for severe cases???
What do you all think. I am definatley not in a severe flare anymore, just coming out of one, and I am tired of always being on the edge of one. What route would you suggest, anyone???

All I am currently on is Asacol and it seems to have stopped helping me.

6mp which is the sister med of Imuran. I personally like it better, I had less side effects with it compared to Imuran. One tip is to take the 6mp at bedtime to avoid any potential side effects. I know most don't have problems getting more colds etc on these meds, but do have problems when on Humira or Remicade.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

My aunt was on Imuran, and while working as a 1st grade teacher, actually said she caught less colds while her stint on it. I'm not currently on it (remission) but I still catch everything! --and it takes me FOREVER to get over anything, too.

I was on Imuran for about 15 months, unfortunately it hasn't worked as well as we would like, and I'm off of it now. I work with families with babies and young children, in their homes, and I didn't get sick once while on it. My boys both had the flu, one of them pretty bad, with fevers and taking Tamiflu. I almost always get the flu and was prepared to be laid up with it, even warned my boss, but I didn't get it at all! I really think the Imuran kept my immune system from reacting strongly to things, and I really tolerated it well. The first two weeks or so I took the pills seperately during the day to help keep nausea at bay, but then I was taking all 3 in the morning. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
diagnosed w/Crohn's 11/06. 34f with 2 boys, a lovable dog, and a wonderful husband. 150 mg Imuran, bentyl, entocort, vicodin as needed, metoprolol for orthostatic hypotension and heart palpitations. Bowel resection 9/07. Active disease back, darn it 8/08. 11 year old son with IBS-C, on Bentyl.

I am on Imuran and Humira right now and have a daycare. So far so good as far as colds and that go. All the kids recently had a flu like sickness and I am the only one that didn't get sick.
Of course this winter will be my first while on these, but I will take a few extra colds over being in the flare I have been in.
Dx with Crohn's in 1997 after 5 years of worsening symptoms.
Resection a few months after dx after 1 month on TPN and IV steroids.
Also have severe asthma.

Tried: Pentasa, Cholestyramine

Presently taking: 3.2 grams Asacol, 150 Imuran, now on 40 mg prednisone, Humira(start on Sept26/08), probiotics.
For asthma I take Advair 500, singulair, arieus
