My GI thinks since my symptoms have not completely went away (or 80-90% better) that I need to go to 2 acacol 3x’s a day instead of the 3 acacol 2x’s a day and continue taking endocort 3mg 2x’s a day.   I am to try this for a few months and see how I am feeling.  He didn't see the need to change my medication.

My concern is I have been on endocort since January of 2008.  My GI says that long-term therapy is sometimes necessary, however I worry about side effects considering endocort is in the steroid family.

Does anyone have any experience in the area of long-term endocort use?  Or read anything about it?

Hi HM,

I have been on Entocort for 1 1/2 years and this has been the only treatment that has kept my symptoms at bay.  I have not had any adverse effects thus far.  My GI feels that Entocort is a relatively safe drug and can be used long term as long as you are monitored.  Good luck...

Like everything else about treating IBD, there's no "for sure" answer. I was on Entocort for about 3 1/2 years and it caused me to have a really bad leg fracture and avascular necrosis in my shoulder.

Be very sure you take precautions to help prevent osteoporosis, but even this could be ineffective.
