hi all,
I have been getting Remicade for a few years at our local hospital. I premedicate with Tylenol and Benadryl. and havent had any problems. So I went on Wednesday to have the Remicade Infusion. I had  a longer wait for pharmacy to send the medicine to the nurse. Then in comes the Pharmacy Director.himself.. you know that isnt a good sign.He explained that the pharmacy tech mixed the Remicade with the wrong solution. He had mixed it with D 5 W,.The director called the manufacturer, and they said there was an increased risk of having a reaction if mixed with that solution. So it was unusable. The director apologized for the tech's mistake, and offered what solution to the problem he could. So, I had to go back on Thursday to have the infusion.because they had to order more Remicade. I do have to give the Director credit for coming in himself to explain the situation. Though, I did want the remicade on Wed. I had already premedicated and had the IV line in, just waiting for the medicine  to come from pharmacy. The n urse said that in the beginning Remicade was mixed with D 5 W. then they all learned of the increased possibility of reaction and started mixing it with a different solution. Just a heads up on what to know about Remicade and Mixing Solutions.
Have  a super day.Pommom

The diluent to be used for reconstitution is 10 mL of Sterile Water for Injection, USP. The total dose of the reconstituted product must be further diluted to 250 mL with 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP.
Thanks for your reply.
