How can I stop the Weightloss!??

I have been falring for about  a month...my appetite has decrease of course because of the cramps/pain that comes with eliminating waste. Is there any thing you guys do to stop the weight loss? I really hate this disease...It really pisses my off that it comes out of no where POPS up one day and says Im here to derail your life for sometime Ha ha ha!!! It gets really discouraging sometimes.

Dx'ed in 1999. No surgeries.

Current meds: 100 mg 6MP. Just finished prednisone taper. Udo's Choice Probiotics (30 billion).
 
Betaine, digestive enzymes, Candicin (oil of oregano capsules), Beta Sitosterol.

Weight loss... hmm. Yep! The difference between you and me is: I didn't get the diarrhea; I got the constipation. I couldn't go for sometimes a week without an enema. I know, not very manly to get one of those but I had too, LoL!. Don't make the mistake of eating foods that you think will "stop" you up. What kind of doc. are you seeing? I know all about the cramps and appetite decrease. I love food. Don't drink any fluid dairy of ANY KIND! Mild cheese is good but limited amounts. Protein shakes may help. As gross as this sounds, try the Goat Protein Powder. Let me tell ya, it's gross! But, when you need solid protein that's not going to harm your body, try this. Mix it with fruit. No pineapple! Use fruits low in acid! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

If you haven't tried Slim-Fast or Ensure, that is a good way to get nutrients into you and hopefully help to put on a few pounds.

Hehe. I don't mean to be rude to the former response but... I DO NOT recommend the slim fast or ensure. Ensure did damage to me! My nature path doctor told me to stay as far away as possible from that stuff and he was right. I was experiencing more pain and no good results. Please, don't take those. Both are liquid forms of dairy which can be really hard on your bowls!

Thanks for your responses...I do not have diahrea just a lot of cramping when I eat a good meal. I have dealt with the constipation as well but its from a stricture that seems to flare and open every other day...Its just so weird I was doing so good. I was in the gym everyday...eating right walking, running....and then BAM an acute flare.
I think I am most dissapointed because Im young "28" and I see my peers living life to the fullest...working out staying in shape and really enjoying there bodies while mines reaks havoc...I started 6 mp 11 months ago and it seemed to be doing wonders through out the spring and summer but September 1st just like a year ago I was hit. I hate to give up but sometimes I feel like just applying for disability and going home to live with my parents and just say forget it...lock myself in a room and play video games for the rest of my life until I kill over.

I am wondering if you are reacting to something in your diet. Do you keep any kind of food diary? You said you felt great yesterday. Was there something that maybe caused the increase in symptoms?

I find that if I am doing good and then all of sudden the next day I am sick, then generally its because I ate something that doesn't agree with me.

As for help with the weight, I had a dietician tell me to drink protein shakes. If you are lactose intolerant use the Lactaid milk with a scoop of ice cream (if you can tolerate it) and a package of instant breakfast. I liked them so much I drank them alot and did have some weight gain, not alot, but some. Good luck!
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. You have the cramping? You are not alone. I was in bed for three days a week or more for a long time. Mine was consistently terrible, just some days were more terrible than others. Yes, I agree with the above...Keep a watch on your diet. That plays a major role in inflammation and your bodies energy level although it will already be down because of the crohns. I'm 18 and I hate not being able to do the activities that I was once in love with. I earned a black belt in Kenpo karate and then had to stop my training shortly afterward. All my friends are doing something really physically active such as, firefighting, police work, military...sad. I have to accept the fact that I've got what I've got and I have to adjust to it. Life isn't impossible. You've just got to adjust. I work at a desk full time and I go to meetings and make sales. I love it. Not really what I had in mind but hey, I adjusted. I was planning on going to the military before this happened. I just have to keep praying to Jesus that I won't give up because He most certainly hasn't given up on me. I hope things go well for you. Stay strong and do whatever you have to do overcome! Not to sound like I'm preaching or anything but...I love the way my wonderfully supportive pastor put it, "Pray like it all depends on God and work like it all depends on you!" I hope this is encouraging. :-)

I have lost about 15 pounds in the last 2 months and im a small person as is. I now weigh about 100 pounds and im trying to gain weight. The problem is that im a very picky eater at 17 years old. i hate all the protein drinks and i really need to put on a few pounds. any suggestions?

If you can't cope with dairy, you can get a similar product called Fresubin. It's liquid and a total food - has all the vitamins and minerals you need each day.

You can also buy a powder called Polycose. It's tasteless and contains a lot of calories, and you add it to your drinks and sprinkle it on top of your food, so you don't need to eat as much real food to maintain your weight.

I hope that makes sense. It's early and I'm a bit incoherent.

There is lactose-free Ensure, yes...I'd agree that you should try that out. I'm sure you could find something more "natural" that is similar, or you can make your own...here's my favorite weight-gain supplement: 1/2 banana, 1 scoop protein powder, a big ol' dollop of peanut butter (as much as you can bear), and enriched soy or rice milk mixed into a smoothie. That packs a nutritional wallop and is easy on the guts. Also, add some fats to every food - oil, butter, whatever you can tolerate. Protein, protein, protein is key too.

my best recipe is brown cow, plain, cream top yogurt, honey, peanut butter, flaxseed oil and sliced banana. I lived on this recipe for a few months and it saved me!
49 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. December '06 had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now taking Glycolax, Ultra Fiber Plus, Florastor, and DHEA. Have become gluten-free diet per naturopath's tests.

mmm flare is bad,had sweet chilli sauce yestie really stirred things up even thou it was yummy as :( also try to keep your body healthy with proteins etc like ensure i use to haf fortisip till i got sick of the taste,and jellies,mash etc

I go up and down in the weight department. I have become a grazer. I nibble on biscuits, bread, rice, etc., throughout the day, small quantities so as not to hurt when digesting. This seems to allow me to gain weight between the times that I cannot eat at all and am on liquid diet for a week or more. Like a freakin' roller coster. Also, I can take dairy, so I eat a bowel of ice cream every night. I have actually gained 40 pounds... BUT I am also back on the Prenisone (Defcon 1 Juice alert!)

What really worked for me was calorie-dense foods. I ate lots of custard, lots of baked chicken thighs, plenty of cheese, and home-made yogurt. I was on the SCD; before that, I had been losing a pound a week. It took a couple of weeks to stabilize, but once I started the SCD I started putting weight back on. By April- three months later- I had gained back 12 pounds. So, I put the weight back on as fast as I had taken it off.

I'm now at 153 pounds, which for a 5'11" guy is just about where I want to be.

I don't think I agree about the ensure it lactose free and does not contain dairy products. I drink ensure plus and it helps maintain my weiht and cuts down on D to me, put this is just my opinion. Your body is deplete of the things it needs and ensure carries everything. I thought slim-fast was a diet drink.hmmm But yeah I drink ensure plus on the regular it does my body good.
