Okay guys I really really need your help...What steps do I need to take to get help? I have seen my GI twice since Sept...he hasnt done anything to help me at all...Today I requested a consult with a new GI which is scheduled for DEC 10th...Obviously I wont be alive till then at this rate. The receptionist said I can call my primary care doc and she can do a doc to doc call and get me in sooner...I swear its seems like when your really sick...the health care institution really lets you down and Falls flat on its face...I mean I just bled like I was stabbed and they want me to jump through circus hoops! This has happened to me so many times with this disease...its utterly sad

How much blood did you lose? If it's really gushing out, perhaps you should go to the emergency room.

btw, I'd appreciate it if you could refrain from swearing here, please. It doesn't matter if you put symbols in place of the missing letters; it's still swearing. We need to keep this site suitable for youngsters.

Thanks,

Ivy.

Have you ever been on topical meds, Doc? I'm thinking of things like suppositories and enemas.

Hey Doc,

I have ulcerative colitis, not crohn's, so I'm used to bleeding... There's blood every time I use the restroom. I know it's more common to have bleeding with UC so I don't know if it means anything differently if you have it with crohn's. It could possibly be internal hemmorhoids though or maybe a fissure.. Was it bright red blood? A lot, or a little? Sometimes I have blood just dripping out and turning the water red, other times it's just on the TP. It is pretty scary though!

I would call your GP and see if they can get you in sooner with the GI (yeah, I know how that goes, it's so stupid!) but otherwise the best thing to do is just keep an eye on it and remember that when blood mixes with water, it looks a LOT worse than it really is- sometimes it looks like I lost a pint when it's probably just a tablespoon! lol

Good luck and try to stay calm (I know, I know, easier said than done)

Female, 23, Ulcerative colitis (pancolitis) since 1999; GERD; gastritis; osteopenia in femur head & lumbar spine from long term prednisone use...

Current Meds:
Lexapro 10mg, Sulfasalizine 3000mg/day

My G.I. doesnt seem to worry about bleeding and pain. It's a way of life for alot of us I guess? Hope it turns out OK for you.

When I bled I also bled A LOT. I was taken by ambulance and kept in the hospital for 3 days. There a GI went in and closed up a gushing ulcer that I had in my TI. Also my blood was BRIGHT red. It was just coming out so fast it never had time to change to dark. So that I view as a myth now. Now I just look for lots of blood. Little amounts I call my docs, if it's LOTS like I had that day, I'm going the hospital. I don't fool around with hemmoraging!

Of course I understand, Doc. You're only saying what the rest of us want to say (and we want to say it on your behalf, too. Life's not fair). Still, rules is rules... :-)

Waiting for your doctor's advice sounds like a good idea, but *please* don't wait until you're dizzy from blood loss before you head to the ER. If you're really worried, go. The worst that can happen is that you sit in the waiting room at the bottom of their triage list... and if you do end up fainting, then at least you have qualified people nearby to help you.

Jennifer, that sounds really scary. Wow.
