hi, i'm new to the forum and just thought i'd ask some questions as i am so confused at the moment and unable to get any answers! I'm 21 years old and female. i have always had problems with my stomach it used to be just constipation but since towards the end of last year and up to now i have been having intermittent bouts of dirrahoea, stomach gurgles and rumbles, sore and tender ribs and muscles on my right side, unexplained bruises on my shins and always feel tired. I've lost weight also which part was intentional and the other kilos i think is from the chronic dirrhoea.

I was diagnosed with fructose malabsorption earlier this year and i know the symptoms that this causes but i know how to control that through diet change, so i'm pretty sure it isnt what is still causing my problems because i am very careful with avoiding what i should. a few months ago i had a really sudden bout of severe stomach pain, where i couldnt walk or move because it hurt so much. i went to the hospital and they put it down to IBS, maybe it was excessive gas build up? I have had a gastroscopy, colonoscopy and biopsies taken and they have come back all normal. Before the internal examinations i had a high reading on the inflammation markers blood test, which lead my GI to test me for crohn's. He is still worried i have it because of my symptoms but i keep thinking i don't? I am currently on salofalk and am going to get reviewed again in a few days. No one can seem to give me a straight answer because this disease is so hard to diagnose? what i am wondering is, is it possible to have negative results but still have crohn's? has anyone else been through numerous testing before they finally got an answer?

thanks!

also my GI says diarrhoea doesn't cause weight loss, but my doctor says it does. And does salofalk cause bruises? i'm not deficient in anything except my iron levels are on the borderline plus i have amennorrhea.

Hi Welcome to Healing Well there are some people here that have taken awhile to get diagonis. A pill cam is done on some to determine what is going on. There are others who might be able to suggest some helpfull ideas. lol gail

It does take time for some to be dx'd. Diarrhea really doesn't cause weight loss, unless it's severe. When it's severe you aren't absorbing well.

So only a colonoscopy was done? And it showed as normal, no signs of inflammation?

CD can affect the small intestines as well so they need to do upper GI tests.

i've had an internal ultrasound done and everything is fine, they did say there is very little endomytrial layer which means there is no sign of my period coming any time soon. and i have a really small cyst on my right ovary but that isnt causing any issues.

doesn't a gastroscopy show the small intestine? it's just so frustrating! i havent been medically diagnosed but i just keep putting it down to IBS but my GI says he doesnt think thats what is going on! i dont think i will ever get any answers!

Persevere with the tests etc... It took me about 6 months to get diagnosed. I ended up seeing as Gastroenterologist and had a colonoscopy & endoscopy. They found inflammation & ulceration with the colonoscopy. Good luck :)

well i went back to the gi on monday and he said he's increasingly convinced that it is crohns. my liver enzymes were slightly elevated, they were up once last year before i started any medications or finding out what was the matter. my gi said its not cos of the medication and belives its to do with my bowels. so i have to have a blood test in 8 weeks to see if doubling my medication dosage helps the enzymes to go back to normal! i worry even though they are only slightly elevated thats its like the start of something bad coming along!

I'm sorry to hear that your GI is leaning towards it being crohn's...at least it's not all in your head...for many going through these symptoms and not getting a confirmed DX for ages seems to be harder on them mentally in some ways. Hopefully they will find med that will help you achieve a full and long remission.
