My son's girlfriend  has a 9 yr old daughter, that was jusy diagnosed with crohns. I have been reading about it on-line. My question is , is that she supposably has this so bad, that I'm being told that she only has 6 months to live is this possible? I know there isn't a sure cure, that it can be somewhat kept under control by eating the proper foods. could this be possible or is he just looking for sympathy?

You should probably talk to her doctor. None of us here know the specifics on her daughter.
SCD since 01, remission since 01, occasional Arby's breaks :)

Absolutely. I agree with aoccc.

But if you're asking if it is possible to die of Crohn's, the answer is yes. We've had a few people on this forum this month who have lost friends with Crohn's. And every now and then we get a post from a distraught relative who has just found out that a loved one has months to live because of Crohn's.

unfortunately in children this disease is hard to dx and it usually advanced because how much do you really think about a stomache, being something very serious.
Yes this disease can be deadly, especially since children do not have the reserves that most adults do. (meaning when they crash they crash hard)
I wonder what meds they have her on.
I strongly suggest that you do talk with your son and his girlfriend about this.
Perhaps I misinterpreted, but it sounds like you might be suspicious of the situation.
Diet changes work for some people, but for me I tried a couple of different ones and ended up having surgery and have several blood transfusions.  So meds and surgery is the way to go for me.
