My Crohn's has been fairly quiet in the past.  But during the past month or so, I have had on and off "stinging" pain on my lower left abdomen (NOT lower right quadrant).  The pain is moderate and comes and goes.  I am wondering if it is due to gas or strictures or something more serious?  How does you pain feel like?

Diagnosed with CD in 1994;

In 1994 I was treated with Pentasa of no avail.  Have being treated with Chinese herbal medicines for over 10 years.

My pain is always left sided, but that is because I have had 3 resections and that is where my small and large intestine join up and where my disease is active. As far as how it feels, that depends on what I eat, if I eat and what time of day. Some times it is sharp and feels like someone is stabbing me. It literally takes my breath away. Other times it is more of an ache that can last for days. And some times it comes in waves of pain, which usually means a blockage.

I feel the same actually. My doctor felt around today though and apparently mine is mostly subcutaneous. Still though...there are instances where it feels a lot deeper.

When I have pain, it tends to alternate between a backache (a bit under my shoulder blades), and a band of pain across my abdomen (just a bit under the ribcage). Sitting really aggravates it and I have to lay completely flat (no pillow even) to alleviate it a bit. Luckily, I haven't had that kind of pain since August or so. I also get some mild pain in my lower left side sometimes. And if I have an obstruction, the pain is at its worst just a little bit to the right of the belly button.

Mine tends to be mainly on the right side, consistent with Crohn's colitis, especially when I'm stressed about something. However, when I have gas pain, I feel it all over, right side and left, and sometimes in the stomach.

All over my stomach, left and right side. Sometime in the middle and bottom left. I get it just under my ribs and toewards the back of my body as well. Not much fun!

I mostly get cramping pain in my lower abdomen. It usually passes within 30 seconds or so, and occurs a few times a day. I used to get painful bloating, but haven't been bothered by that for the past couple of months.

Depends on the hour, literally. I almost always non stop have LRQ pain to some degree. It feels like I have a large sore or burn inside and someone is squeezing the hell out of it. Sometimes when I move a certain way, it feels sharp and stabbing. Other times, when I do too much physical activity it feels like a large strong and constant fist is inside and squeezing. That would be a partial obstruction and there is also a lot of pressure and bloating and just major uncomfortableness.

When my bowels are spasming, it feels like non-stop achy tightening and constricting going on and I pretty much have to cr*p several times while that is happening. This could last a couple of hours or so... til the next time.

The more times I go to the bathroom, the worse my butt hole hurts. It swells up, tears a little, feels like passing bits of glass out my bum. Extremely painful.

Oh, and when I have ulcers in my mouth and throat, it pretty much feels like strep throat. Everything I try to swallow burns terribly.
