I have been taking Primadophilus Reuteri Pearls, by Nature's Way, for a couple years now. These are very handy because they don't need refrigeration and I often travel. They definitely helped a lot, until recently.

Now I have lots of gas, lots and lots...and gurgling. I know this can also be signs of impending flare-ups, but I do not have pain or bloating.

Do these little guys stop working after a while?
Best of luck to you.
Shawn.

Chron's since '81.  Blessed to have little trouble with it, over all.  On 150 6MP and dash of Colestid.

I wouldn't think they'd stop working, but I suppose it would always be possible to get a batch with compromised potency... like dead little guys... skull

On the site below they say PR Pearls have only 1 billion cfu (colony forming units). One billion is extremely low. Extremely. I've read articles that say if you are going to spend money on probiotics, pick one with at LEAST 15 billion cfu. Their point being that our digestive tract has over a trillion bacteria and ANY probiotic supplement is literally a drop in the bucket.

I would consider trying another brand just to see. Also, there are many brands you can travel with. I think mine says it is fine outside the fridge for a week or 10 days... something like that. They just recommend refrigeration for optimal shelf life. I use Theralac, but I've heard good things about Udo's, Dr. Michael Murray's and we've discussed VSL#3 here before. I just put my daughter, who is away at college, on Udo's for good measure. Probiotics are supposed to protect/boost the immune system.

Good luck!

I don't think they can "stop working" because they are simply friendly bacteria, as Emom mentioned, they could be comprimised (expired) always check the date on the package, I use the primadophilus caps and have not had any issues in the entire 4ish yrs I've been taking them...also there is no guarantee probiotics will keep flares at bay, but as Emom also suggested, if they don't contain a high enough (1 billion) content of cultures then you may not be benefiting from them the way you would taking the pills like I do which contain 5 billion.

Maybe use the pills on a regular basis and rely on the pearls for when you're traveling, the pills do state they have guaranteed intestinal release, I don't know about the pearls so you might want to check into that as well.

Thank you! What is the brand name of those caps you're taking?
Best of luck to you.

Primadophilus Reuteri made by natures way, it comes in caps or powder form, I find the caps much easier myself.
