Hi Guys,

I was a good healthy 16 stone only 2 months ago. Today, I checked my weight, and to my shock I am down to 13 stone That is three stone of me in two months. Is that normal for chrons? I have changed my diet in a massive way, but still three stone in two months seems like alot to me.

Hi Conor,
Yeh, when flaring I can drop lots of weight off. One flare I had that landed me in hospital, years ago, saw me lose 6kg in less than a month (Im not that big, so this was drastic). The hospital bed I was put into was in the adolescent anorexic ward. I remember the young girls thinking that I was an old anorexic, then explained why I was there and how I wish I could tolerate food, gave them food for thought, although one of them wished she had the disease herself!
When I get too thin, I supplement my diet with smoothies and lots of snacking in between meals.
Hope you find something to help regain weight, its not a good thing to be too thin.
Jo

Hi Guy's,

thanks for your quick replies. God SydneyJo, sound like you had a really hard time with that one. Did it all work out for you?

Ivy6,

I have made major changes to my diet in that I have cut out alot of the surgars, fat's and salts. I am more into eating healthy foods such as fruits (well cooked) light fiber foods, drinking huge amounts of water and general healthy eating. Although, I would not have thought that that would account for such a massive weight loss. Also, my stools are coming out like a yellow colour. Somone said that that could be something to do with it.

Conor, that does sound like quite a bit to lose, but I always lose some when I flare, too. I agree with Gail, do make sure you're getting enough protein. I don't do well with lots of fruit and veggies but know that some with CD do.

My last flare before going on Remicade saw my weight go down to 94 pounds from my usual weight of about 135. Since starting the new med regime I am in the strongest remission I've ever had  and now weigh a healthy 145 pounds. I am packing it on! Serious weight loss always happens when I'm flaring. Getting protein into your diet is great advice. Take care!

Thanks for the advise guys. I do great with fruit and veg and I also take a protein and Fiber supplement. So I am getting in what I need. Some people have suggested that the colon is not taking what it needs from the food which is causing the colour, they also suggested that it will be that colour and floot because there is a lot of fat in it that the body did not take from the food. I am at a loss. But then again, we will wait and see.
