Hi ladies,

As many of you know, I'm pregnant and due in Dec.

I'd really like to know if any of you had active crohn's while pregnant and did you deliver early? How many weeks were you when you delivered? Did you have vag. birth or c-section? Did diarrhea affect the pregnancy? Any info about your labour/delivery outcome and baby's welfare please let me know.

Thanks!

I'll share my experiance with you even though it's from almost 17 yrs ago...

I had moderate flare during most of my pregnancy, for a couple of months it got more severe but for the most part, moderate...I had a healthy 8 lb 3oz baby boy (he'll be 16 in March) that I went full term with....I had natural and I mean natural since there was no time for an epideral, child birth with him and I had my perianal crohn's skin tags which were also flaring (of course they have been ever since having that un-necessary hemerrhoidectomy done on them) but he was my second baby, I had my first one naturally too but the only sign of CD I had with her was my perianal crohn's skin tags which were mistaken for hemmies (she was 8 lbs 15oz). And I was on no oral meds with my son either, just cortifoam rectal meds when things became severe and he's perfectly fine to date.

I hope this helps you feel more at ease :)

Ya eh....my daughter will be 19 yrs old in January, considering how heavy she was she was only 20 1/4" long and my son was 20 3/4" long, my daughter isn't even 5'5", she's pretty much done growing and she's about 5'3"-5'4"...but my son is 5'7" and still has time to grow before he hits 18-19 yrs...hopefully he'll be at least 5'10" but his dad is only 5'6" and I'm 5'5".

I'm just glad I had the epidural in while delivering my daughter, it was bad enough feeling that ring of fire when I was having my son...needless to say, he's the baby, no more after him, after feeling all the pain of natural child birth I got my tubes clipped when he was 4 months old.

I had my daughter a little over a year ago, and she was fine. My crohns was pretty under control when I got pregnant, but I flared really bad at fifteen weeks, and then again at twenty six weeks. After that, they started me on pentasa, which has done miracles for me. My daughter was born only six days early and she came naturally. Also to maybe put your mind at ease, labor is not as bad as its made out to be, at least for us. I consider the pain from flare ups worse, so I was able to handle a drug free labor jst ffine. She was 21 1/2 inches long, 7 pounds 2 oz. Good Luck!!! keep us posted.
25 year old woman, Dx with crohns 2004.  Currently on remicade 10mg/kg, Pentasa, Azathioprine, prednisone 15mg and weaning, glucosamine with chondroiten, Calcium with D, and a multi prenatal vitamin.
I have tried asacol, colazol, entocort, fiber tabs, and have to take phernergan, tylenol with codeine, and ativan once in a while when i flare badly.

pb - LOL! Sorry, I was dilated to 8cm and twin A's foot was POKING through my cervix...yes, they had to repair. Lord, I remember that! But, somehow, I still want more children badly!

OP - I don't have any advice. I was in remission while pregnant and never felt better. I did deliver my twin girls nearly 2 1/2 months early, but I had a lot of factors surrounding that, none of which were for my Crohn's, though it's possible SOME of the pre-term labor issues were a result, but not very likely. I will say my labor felt JUST like a bad Crohn's flare... it was back labor. I was fine, and by the time I got to the hospital, 8cm dilated, all within 4 hours. THe biggest issue is low birth weight if you are flaring. Make sure you are getting your prenatal and eating lots of iron rich foods. I was very anemic by the time I delivered, but then again, I had twins. As for my girls? My first daughter died to a rare anomaly NOT associated with my Crohn's or any meds I was on (I did Remicade, IVIg, Heparin, Baby Aspirin, and a few other things), and my 2nd daughter, tho just tiny (3lb 0.4oz) is perfectly healthy. The doctors did thorough u/s's on her entire body after her birth because of her sister's major anomalies, and they have continued to keep tabs on her lungs and her weight and all. She's doing great, and you would never guess she was born so early or was under extremely stressful situations. My Crohn's has not at all affected her. And, she's a great eater! :)

GL! :) And, congrats on your soon to be baby! :)
