I know I know... I need to stop whining. Every time I see a new GI I get a different diagnosis, 1st Crohn's, 2nd UC, 3rd Crohn's 4th. IBS. What the...

Guess I need to now go and read up on IBS, though there's no way in heck that it's anything other than crohn's. I don't think you develop crippling arthritis from IBS, or have CT scans that show Crohn's or have pain that feels like you have a knife in you, and are nauseated/vomiting/pooping ALL the time... I could be wrong. I'm human.

Enough said. Had to rant and you guys are the only people who actually listen. If you know of parallel symptoms between IBS and Crohn's, please throw them out.

I have both crohn's and IBS, my GI explained that with having flaring CD for so many yrs it's not uncommon to end up developing IBS as well...who's bowel wouldn't become irritable after 17 yrs straight of having crohn's with no full remission.

Hopefully you'll be able to get a proper DX soon, hang in there.

Pain cramping bloating D and C can be from IBS or Crohns. Blood, mucos, and inflamation are from IBD. My GI left me and I am so afraid to find a new one for just that reason. GI #1 said I was fine or maybe had IBS, GI # 2 said Crohns, scared of what GI #3 will say.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

Oh, Lesley. That must be so frustrating. I'm really sorry.

So did he say you have Crohn's *and* IBS, or IBS and *not* Crohn's?

check out this link from the ccfa...

It explains a little about differences between IBD and IBS and how some docs believe one patient can in fact have both while some believe not (which is beyond me since just because they have similar symptoms they are 2 seperate entities that can certainly affect one patient).

Morning, everyone.

Ivy! He says I have IBS... ha! It's crohn's. Guess I will have to let him do another colonoscopy and CT scan. Will wait until I am in heck of a flare then go in. That seems to be the only time that Crohn's shows itself on me. I stay in a medium flare more often than not. Then when the symptoms get real ugly my PCP (treating me for crohn's) prescribes the juice (Pred). This keeps me out of the ER.

No blood, no mucus; just T. ilium sharp intermittent pain, nausea/vomiting, bloating in the gut... and joints for that matter and joint pain now, and weakness.

I have a very controlled diet at this point. No red meat, no veggies, no wheat, nuts, etc. about all I eat are soft foods, chicken, fish and occasional pork - well cooked. I cannot have anything with seeds now since they also found the diverticulum on the SBFT.

Can't wait to see what the next GI will say. Just looking for a nice doctor who won't get up and walk out of the room multiple times while I am in there AND will sit and talk with me - not AT me. This guy really peeved my PCP. And my PCP knows him... so I have a feeling that this GI will get a call from him! The GI told me to let my PCP treat my symptoms and let me go with some IBS medication that's the same as the Bentyl that PCP already prescribed... which isn't doing much, by the way.

kk enough babbling. Very common occurrence for Crohnies, I know. Back and fourth and back and fourth. I should practice more patience, I know. Will work on it.

You might have to try copying and pasting the link into your search engine, then it should hopefully work because I just veiwed it at the CCFA website.

BTDT, I personally believe they go to the diagnosis of IBS when they simply just don't know what's going on. They told me IBS for years before saying Crohn's.

With having Crohn's disease I'm very weary of them telling me I have IBS in addition. They would have to be 100% certain that there is no inflammation or flare up causing my symptoms SOMEWHERE in my body. Not just where they can see with their scope. Which is pretty hard to promise.
