After some months of progress I've taken a step or two backwards. I started bleeding on Monday night and now I'm exhausted and pale again.

I have no idea what happened since I was feeling pretty good and my hemoglobin was up to 12.5. One thing I started again was taking some psyllium fiber (the metamucil capsules) because I was getting constipated once more. Could this have caused me problems?

I also started eating peanut butter (smooth, real peanut butter) again to try to put some weight on. I started this about a month ago.

Or maybe it just this DD, no rhyme or reason. I did stop my 6MP a few weeks ago so I guess the 6MP has worn off and the MTX hasn't kicked in yet.

So I'm back on 40mg of prednisone again until the bleeding stops.

I'm so frustrated.

It's never ccaused me to bleed...are your BM's too firm? If so then that could cause a small internal hemmie to bleed.

I don't think its a hemmie because the stools are black and tarry, so it's small bowel.

Yikes, you should see your doc about that as soon as you can.

So the clinic said to keep taking the prednisone and if I feel worse to call again, and to go ahead with my 4th methotrexate injection today.

God I can't believe it, this happened so fast and I don't even know what caused it. I was just getting better from the flare up last spring. Now it's more fatigue, more steroids, more waiting for medication to start working, more missing work or dragging my butt at work, then tapering all over again and holding my breath.

I'm beat down on the ground and this disease just keeps kicking me in the head.

Sorry to hear about your flare up :(. You might try switching from peanut butter to almond or pecan butter. It's supposed to be easier on the gut. Also, in my seemingly never ending quest to git rid of my constipation, I might have finally found something that consistently works...magnesium pills. It's only been a week, but I've been taking 450 milligrams everyday, and so far so good.

Yes! I forgot about magnesium. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the tip about the almond butter. Once things stabilize for a while I'll try some of that.

Hi Maybe this will be a small set back and you will recoup soon. Maybe you have an allergy to nuts that is causing you to have problems .I was reading yesterday about allergies to food causing inflamation. Could be something to keep a eye on.

Well, I've seen people with IBD bleed from taking hard fiber in the past, though not with that one. But, yes its possible.

But I bet you are just having a (hopefully brief!) Flare. Mine often happen with stunning speed..

       Sincerely,

     Matthew

Rider,

I'm just a supplements sales clerk who is a Crohnnie, but  I never use or recommend psyllium for IBD'ers, you might look into acacia as an alternative. Psyllium is known for plugging (slowing or temporally stopping) in the intestines, even for non IBD'er's and causes me bloating. Acacia does not expand after you consume it. Everybody has issues with psyllium if they do not get enough water. If  their magnesium is to low, the water is not transported to the intestines. You might think about buying some 200 mg Magnesium , in case the 450mg is to strong for the long run, It helps keep things moving, but to much can cause D. For times you want more, just take two. Just my thoughts...

Crohn's for life, symptoms included terrible joint and soft tissue pain, just met first cousin who suffers from Reactive Arthritis-explains sooo much. Great control on SCD (when I'm good) and I get by with a lotta help from my friends!

Thanks Margie.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the dark stools to stop after the bleeding stops? I don't feel like I'm losing more blood, by still have dark stool. Thanks.

Well, hopefully this setback will be brief. As for stool color, sorry but most of my bleeding is rectal, so its plain red. Only rarely have that tar poop thing..

Sincerely,
Matthew
