My first colonoscopy is next wednesday. The doctor gave me trilyte for prep along with 4 dulcolax tablets. He told me about the trilyte but did not tell me what the tablets are for. Does anyone know.

The Dulcolax are added insurance to ensure things are cleared out...I usually do one bottle of phospho-soda and then a few hours after I've done that I pop the 4 Dulcolax and drink with plenty of water to follow.

A good tip is eat lightly (even liquid-type diet) for a day or 2 BEFORE you do the prep, this can cut back a lot (if not almost all) the cramping from doing the prep...when you have solid food in ya then do the prep there's a lot of cramping because the prep is breaking down all that food that hasn't been completely digested yet.

Good tips there from pb4 - I would definitely recommend sticking with a jello/broth diet for a day or two before you have to chug the trilyte. If you're already experiencing a lot of D, though, I would be hesitant to take all four tablets on top of the trilyte... I hate to be a bad influence, but I have skipped the tablets on several occasions and the doc never knew the difference. If your trilyte starts to clear you out almost immediately upon starting - I would give your guts a break and see if you can "run clear" without the tablets. I know it's bad to go against doc's orders, but some docs just don't seem to understand when your trouble is keeping things IN, not getting things OUT! :-)
