Hello Everybody sad

I have a pretty painful cyst on my ***oris that my gyno said may need to be surgically drained (ouch) if the antibiotic doesn't work.

I was wondering if any of the ladies on this forum have experienced a cyst on their ***oris? What was the outcome?

For both the ladies and the gents, I was wondering how many of you have experienced cysts on your private parts and what was the outcome?

This really bites and so far I don't think the antibiotic is working much. I hope it kicks in soon, I'm halfway done with the antibiotic!

ANY advice would help!!

Thanx guys!!!

Yikes. That sounds very painful. Sorry you are going through that. I haven't had that problem and I hope you feel better soon. Have you checked w/ your GI too in case it is crohns related?

I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I don't have experience with this, but I'm so sorry for what you're going through!! I've had abscesses before, but not cysts. I'm not sure if they would work the same, but would using a "hot compress" (ie hot-as-you-can-stand-it washcloth) help to draw out the icky stuff? I had a cyst on my ear when I was small and I remember dreading those wickedly hot rags, but then I always felt better afterward...

The only other thing that I can think of that might help would be hot baths... again... same principle... try to draw out the infection/pus so you don't have to do it surgically.

((hugs)) Good luck with everything!

PS: Lilturbo - not sure if I said this before but I liked your blog and your dog is SOOOOOO cute!!! You look like one determined tough girl. I bet that cyst is getting in the way of your cycling. Ouch.

That sounds sooo painful!

I don't know if these are somewhat similar but I get boils in that area, especially if I shave...they hurt and take a lot time to go away!  I soak in epsom salts, but boils are probably not the same as cysts...?

I sure hope you feel better soon!  That sounds miserable!

Do you think it could be Crohn's related?

Take care!

A long time ago, before I was diagnosed with Crohn's (although I probably already had it), I had a Bartholin's gland cyst. One labia was very swollen, and it hurt like hell! The unbearable pain peaked the day before I got my doctor's appt., so perhaps it drained all on it's own. I still had to take antibiotics though, and a hot water bottle or a hot bath helped ease the pain.

i had what we thought was a cyst more in the vaginal opening area and my gyno said to leave it but then it started to hurt soooo badly that they drained it but what they found was that it was actually an abscess and directly linked to my crohns.
other than that i get dermiod cysts on my ovaries which im not sure if they have anything to do with this lovely disease.
i would say the same as everyone else hot hot hot baths and compresses.

i have been dealing with a fistula trying to break through my bottom this past week and i think to think that sitting in the hottest bath i could possible sand helped bring it to the surface and drain. it seems to help any infection come right to the surface.

im so so sorry you're dealing with this and i hope it heals up in no time for you.

My gyno thought I had a bartholin cyst, so he sliced it open, drained it, and guess what....it was actually a fistula waiting to break through! It can just be so hared to tell down there what is crohns realted and what isn't. If the stupid crohns would just leave our other parts alone, we would be all set!

I've had a cyst on my vaginal wall (inside) that my gyno has been monitoring for months but I wonder if he considered a fistula...

No cysts down below, but one on the back of my neck that's never gone away. I was told to leave it be and one is okay, more than one is a worry. (Cysts just run in the family) I have had abscesses that attached to my ovary. More painful though was that I had this infection that ate holes in my R. fallopian tube. That certainly hurt and its nowhere near skin so I imagine that yours is a very specific kind of world of pain. I'm sorry you're hurting and I wish I could give you advice other than to keep an eye on it and finish the antibiotics. After that, maybe having it removed/drained won't be the worst experience. Sometimes removal isn't anywhere near as painful as trying to heal it other ways.
27/f/CD. 4 CD related surgeries: 2 resections, 2 JP drains, 3 NG tubes, many absesses (including the one my most recent surgery scraped off my ovary) and fistulas.
Currently trying to figure out hip and knee joint pain.
Have lost in these surgeries: appendix, 8 in. intestine, R fallopian tube, gallbladder, 10 in. intestine
Dx'd: February 2007.
Pentasa (and much mental screaming)

Ok, I've never had one in the location you're speaking of but I did have one on my labia. Oh it hurt!!! I used a heating pad on it, cleaned it with peroxide, and put neosporin on it. It still would not go away on it's own so my doc had to give me 2 rounds of antibiotics. Even after I was done with the second round it still took a bit to finish healing. Remind your doc (and yourself!) that you have a compromised immune system and take longer to heal. I wouldn't want to rush off to surgery until I was sure it couldn't be handled medicinally. It's just not the kind of area you want 'worked on,' y'know?!?

Not exactly the same thing, but I had skin tags in the area. I just had a baby and my OB/GYN removed them while my epidural was still in effect. I had planned a natural child birth, but at least the epidural came in handy for that.
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, but Ive gone rogue and med-free to nurse.

One thing to think about with crohns is H.S., and it happens in the groin area.

Thank you all SO MUCH for your responses! I have started the warm compressions and it is helping take the pain away. I have only been using warm rags but will sit in the tub tonight with epson salt in hopes that this thing will drain itself. I will also call my gastro doc and tell him about it tomorrow (I don't know why I only relied on a gyno)! Maybe I was in denial? =)

Tsitodawg, thank you SO MUCH for your response. It made me giggle (when you said you thought it was a joke...lol) and cry (when you talked about my blog).

FitzyK23, thank you for your comment on my pup =) He has a "satellite dish" on his head at the moment because he tore his paw up (he's a meat head) so he looks even more adorable! Silly pup!

I will keep you all posted. Again, THANK YOU all for taking the time to respond and give some much needed support!

My body (immune system) is especially good at creating cysts. It seems to me that whenever there is something that my immune system doesn't recognize, it just walls it off into a cyst. I swear that I've got more cysts than breasts and there are cysts on my kidneys and in my liver. My one ovarian cyst grew to hold 1.5 liters of fluid and squashed the right ovary into nothing. The real fun cysts were the ones that grew in my ear canals. Getting those cut out was a barrel of laughs!

I've also had some pimple/cyst-like formations in the area where the Bartholin's gland would drain. Fortunately, after some hot soaks, I've been able to pop them like pimples and they've gone away. This HURTS though, so I can't say that I recommend it unless you're up for the pain. Of course, the times that I've had this happen were either before my CD Dx or before it ever occurred to me that I might be popping open a fistula. This is something else to consider.

I hope that the soaking will help to get the cyst to drain and bring you the quick relief that comes along with that.

The closest thing I have had to any problems down their was a fistula that closed off from antibiotics via IV. I swear it works better that way than taking tablets. I'm really sorry you're going through this. I don't even want to think about how it feels..get better!!!!!

I get these all of the time in my genital area. For me, they are my first sign that I am gearing up for a flare. During a flare, I get lots of them. They are like boils or sores.

My GI decided that they are just another way my Crohn's manifests itself. I have no idea if there is scientific backing for that but I can tell you that I will have a sore down there and within 3 days of a Remicade treatment, they went away. Now the same thing happens with Humira! Within days, they are gone. So I am convinced they are Crohn's related, too.

I've had some that truly disabled me from walking, sitting, laying, etc. I've had some pop on their own, others go down on their own. I've been checked for Bartholyn Cysts and it's not that. I treat with hot compresses and heating pads, plus hot baths. And pain meds.

Oh - and I go commando and in skirts as much as possible during those times. The more air gets to them, they better then feel and heal (per my GYN).

TMI? =)

I think it is a gross thought when you think of what may start draining from there!!! LOL

Wanted to edit and add I don't think having a cyst is gross, the thought of going commando w/ one is :)

My neighbor, who doesn't have Crohn's, has had two cysts on her vulva. She's had to take antibiotics, and she says the cysts are painful beyond belief.

Coincidentally, a few weeks ago, after lots of diarrhea, I began to feel chafed in the front (as well as the usual chafing in the back)--and I discovered what looked like a very hard blood blister on my outer vulva. Like an iceberg, it had a very small tip, but was bigger under the skin surface. And it hurt like crazy. I would up taking several hot baths and messing with it and squeezing it until I got a little bit of stuff out of it. Then I dosed it with Neosporin. It shrank and disappeared over the next three or four days. My neighbor believes that it was a cyst like hers.

I sure as h*ll never want to have another one!

I knew what you meant, Fitzy! :) I thought it would be gross, too!--especially at the gym. Just b/c they're at a gym doesn't mean they're not contagious or just plain dirty! Personally, I want a little more barrier between my girl bits and sweaty gym seats than just some thin workout pants!

Not girl parts, but my dad (who also has crohn's) says he gets cysts and little bumps on the back of his neck right around the hairline. They usually precede a flare.
