Can anyone respond that had a bowl nicked during surgery and what the recovery process was and what it may do to me for the rest of my life. I had surgery in august for mings disease, than just this month I had surgery for scar tissue that obstructed my colon. my intenstines were pinched from the scar tissue and i could not have a bowl movement. I am so miserable and scared that i will never recover fully. I am young 24 years old , a nursing student, and very healthy, and active. I am afraid my life ahead my be questionable by this ordeal. surgery and the nick and recovery from all the surgerys. thankyou please help me with my questions.

if this helps you at all...

i had surgery to remove 8 inches of the colon and 2 inches of the ileum. i was off work for almost 3 months. it was another 1-2 months before i was able to do any physical activity, which i had to introduce very slowly. 6 months later i had a colonoscopy to see how my bowels were looking. a routine biopsy perforated the colon, in essence creating a hole to my body cavity. i was rushed in for emergency exploratory surgery. for this surgery, as it was less evasive, i was out of work for 1 month and still about 1-2 months of taking it easy.

i have had a full, complete recovery from both of my surgeries. my bowel movements are normal and i engage in what ever physical activity i desire. the only downside is a massive scar i have running vertically through all of my abdomen, but then things could be worse, right?

just give it time and i would expect you to make a full recovery. colon surgery is rather routine now.

turn  Thankyou that is so incouraging as I started my physical activities at the strenghth I was used to and not slowly, I had just gotten a flu shot and I got so sick every one thought it had to do with the flu shot. I vomited 43 times in one day and got to the Doctor the next day. The rest I explained  I am looking forward to recovery Is there anything I can take to help with scar tissue not to form again so I never have to have surgery again for intestine, bowl , etc . I have been taking vitamin e, aloe vera, I never expected for this to get so bad. thankyou for your prompt reply and encouragement. May you heal completely and continued good health.
