if this helps you at all...
i had surgery to remove 8 inches of the colon and 2 inches of the ileum. i was off work for almost 3 months. it was another 1-2 months before i was able to do any physical activity, which i had to introduce very slowly. 6 months later i had a colonoscopy to see how my bowels were looking. a routine biopsy perforated the colon, in essence creating a hole to my body cavity. i was rushed in for emergency exploratory surgery. for this surgery, as it was less evasive, i was out of work for 1 month and still about 1-2 months of taking it easy.
i have had a full, complete recovery from both of my surgeries. my bowel movements are normal and i engage in what ever physical activity i desire. the only downside is a massive scar i have running vertically through all of my abdomen, but then things could be worse, right?
just give it time and i would expect you to make a full recovery. colon surgery is rather routine now.
