Hi Guys,

Quick question, are people who suffer from chrons more likely to get Urinary track infections? I have had one for the past few days and the doc seems to think that it is linked to chrons. Would that be right?

Have any of you had these infections and was it relating to your chrons?

Mine was directly related to Crohn's. I developed a UTI because I got a fistula to my bladder. I was dumping feces and blood into my bladder causing a UTI. Are you passing air too? I did.

Hi Vicky,

What do you mean passing air? Sorry, that is new to me. I basically hurt each time i pee. My private bits are really read raw and it has only come on since I started using the pred. Does pred have that effect? I am not passing viaible blood in my urine as far as I can see, and the hospital did not comment on that when I was last with them

I had a really nasty one this summer. Tried to treat it with cranberry supplements but had to rush to an emergency clinic and get antibiotics due to the amount of blood/pain...hurt pretty much constantly. Not sure if this was Crohn's related or due to sexual activity, but I think it was the former. I've been okay since, though..hope I never have to relive that.

Hope you feel better soon. Antibiotics should clear it up quickly.

I have a frequent problem with this..I have had kidney stone issues as well..I had one episode over the summer..I always wonder if inflammation to the bowels just trickled over..Cranberry pills and antibiotics really help..I have problems with sulfa drugs which are commonly used..

Warning! TMI Post!

What I mean about passing air is that after I would urinate I'd fart through my uretha. My urine was dark and foul smelling too. I had never experienced that before or since.

I always get Urinary tract infections.. and they are related to Crohns. I haven't had any fistulas, but just from the constant going to the bathroom and having diarrhea, its hard to keep completely clean down there. Sometimes the E.coli from your stool can enter the urethra and cause infection. Also, prednisone can lower your immune system causing you to get infections easier, and making it harder to fight them off. For the redness you can just use a hydrocortisone cream thats OTC. It really helps me.

Thanks for the replies guys.

This is quite a nasty thing to have. There is no pain when going to the toilet, just a real redness around my private parts. They are also really dry. I am off to the doctors tommorow to see what I can do for it.

Thanks again guys.

Conor
