A question for the SCDers...what pre-packaged products do you consider safe? I see a lot of debate about this, and wanted your personal experiences. Have any of you tried:

Spectrum Organic Mayonnaise?
Stretch Island Fruit Leather?
North Coast Apple Sauce (found at Sprout's)?

I've purchased the fruit leather...I've also purchased another brand called Fruitabu. I haven't used the other two products you've listed, but I have purchased an organic sugar-free apple sauce (can't remember the brand) at my grocery store. Another that comes to mind is Dole pineapple. I read the cans closely--some have sugar, some don't. I also regularly buy an organic mustard. I buy organic canned tomatoes for soups and such. Honestly, those are the only things I can think of. I usually make my mayonnaise, but if I could find it "legal" I might not be able to resist!

Here's a link to the mayonnaise ingredients. They use honey instead of sugar. Some of the types aren't legal, but others look like they could be:

Trader Joe's brand of almond butter. Yum! Two tablespoons, maybe half an hour before I exercise.

Here are some web pages that suggest some legal items, but always check for yourself.

Thank you! I go 100% SCD on Monday. The last month, I've cut out most of the sugar (ice cream, pop, boost, juice, candy). I've also been eating 1/2 a cup of homemade yogurt everyday for the last week. Today and tomorrow I'll get my intro foods cooked up. Hopefully, everything goes well!

Could you post the ingredients? I can't find a website that lists them.

I'm fairly certain that there are no legal SCD mayos. If you choose to use one anyway, and you aren't making progress, it should be the first thing you pull.

The Safeway brand of yellow mustard appears to be legal.

The mayonnaise is real close to being legal. The questionable items are spices and lemon juice concentrate. A lot of SCD people don't like canola oil either, but I think that technically it's legal.

The mustard looks good though, so long as your body is fine with sulfites.

It's tough to find legal items on SCD. A group of us at the BTVC yahoo group are working on finding more legal products. We're in the process of figuring out all the question that need to be asked of a company to determine whether the food is legal.

Thanks for the reply...much appreciated!

Today is day 4 on scd :) I much prefer to try and change up my diet first, before potentially switching from imuran to humira or remicade...

Good luck! I'm very thankful to SCD. It's helped a lot! It's also forced me to learn how to cook :-).

Hello,

Great resources in this thread! One thing I might add to preparing the Costco bacon listed at: http://nomorecrohns.com/preparedproducts.aspx

If you boil it in water for 5 minutes before you actually cook it to a crisp, I belive that it removes a lot of the preservatives, sulfites, nitrates, and sugar -- basically the worst ingredients. When I have done this (for me personally) I am able to have bacon as often as I want without any problems.

For a quick snack (when I get super hungry) I mix a little bit of peanut butter (make sure it only contains peanuts and salt) with some honey and eat it by dipping apple slices into the mixture. Best darn snack ever!

I have been on the SCD for 90 days and still can't handle the SCD yoghurt. The creator of the diet says to retry the yoghurt every couple of months if you have problems tolerating it. It is supposed to really help heal the GI tract.
