Hello, so I have always had a irregular cycle but when I have a flare with my Crohn's it seems to be even worse. I haven't had a regular cycle in 6 or 7 months... I know it has to be related to my Crohn's I am concerned with mixing other medications to help regulate my cycle. I am currently on Entocort and Immuran and also in the process of being approved by my insurance company to help pay for Remicade. Any suggestions? Ideas? Much appreciated for your time, thank you :)

Hi Alexandra,
Do you take any form of birth control? I take a BCP and this helps with regulation. I have'nt got any other suggestions, here's hoping someone more enlightened comes along and helps.

I did try Birth Control, it was(Tri-cyclen Low) and it made me gain a depressing amount of weight, and a lot of water retention which doesn't help with the joints:( Thanx for your suggestion Jo, much appreciated:)

I don't know if I can really help but mine used to get really irregular with the weight loss and with the food changes. So if I was on a liquid diet or if I could only stand to eat one thing a lot then it would vanish. Have you been to your gynecologist? There is possibly a connection or it could be causing really strange symptoms before your flares.
27/f/CD. 4 CD related surgeries: 2 resections, 2 JP drains, 3 NG tubes, many absesses (including the one my most recent surgery scraped off my ovary) and fistulas.
Currently trying to figure out hip and knee joint pain.
Have lost in these surgeries: appendix, 8 in. intestine, R fallopian tube, gallbladder, 10 in. intestine
Dx'd: February 2008.
Pentasa (and much mental screaming)

Any thoughts help:) Unfortunately I don't have a gynecologist, I need to go to my family doctor to refer me to one. That is on the many lists of things to do. I am just scared that this irregular cycle is affecting my body.

Even if you don't have a gynecologist, you should get checked. You're nineteen so you should've had your first pap smear and such. Don't wait for a doctor to refer you since you can just as easily make an appointment at a Planned Parenthood. They work on a sliding scale pay grade and THEY can send you on to a good gyne if they can't aid you (they are primarily female health/pregnancy/prevention places). At least, I've always found that the visit is not as unpleasant as other doctors in that Planned Parenthood is willing to listen and discuss concerns.

hi alexandra. i haven't had a normal period for -months-. i had been slowly increasing the 6mp since last october, think my last increase was around march but i believe that imuran is a similar drug to 6-mp and have talked to quite a few girls on here with the same problems. how's that for a run-on sentence?! i am on birth control pills but it does not help to regulate me.

Hormones are linked to exacerbating IBD symptoms unfortunately, some notice it more and other don't notice any difference....BC pills can also make symptoms of IBD worse because of the hormones in them and they can also lead to more bacterial over-growth, something IBDers tend to already have which wreak havoc on symptoms.

:)

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

When I first got sick I did not have my period for 5 months and since then I too am very irregular, my doctor is not to concerned, I have had all the pap smears, blood work, etc. and he feels sure that when I am finally in remission the rest will all fall into place. I have to say I don't miss it!!! lol I would also suggest to get things checked out tho.
