Hello everyone! I am 46 yr old male and this is the first time I have ever posted anything about my desease/conditions. Although I have had terrible and sometimes painful bowel movements during my life, it was'nt until 2003 that I was diagnosed with diverticulosis. During the past few years I  have had several bouts of diverticulitis. I've had my share of cat scans and colonoscopys too. I avoid seeds and nuts like the plague! Even with my constant watch over my diet I still have terrible painful bowel movements (before, during and especially afterwards)! Hemmoroids, bleeding and pain are routine for my BM experiences. I look forward to having a BM but dread the aftermath! Most recently I had a trip to the ER (which I normally try to avoid due to the costs) after suffering 3 days of cruciating BM pains. CT showed nothing and during my stay they gave me Toradal via an IV and I started feeling better. But a few days later I had the same symptoms again. I have been taking 6 fiber caps a day and increased my water intake as instructed by the ER doc. I am tired of seeing the doc again and feel like I am wasting his time. Anyway, tonight I had a rough BM and after 3X to the bathroom my body is feeling queazy, my insides from my stomache to my anus are throbbing and feels like it is pulsating. It interrupts my sleep, affects me on my job, and my relationship with my wife. She is very understanding and wants nothing more than for me to feel better! It is a feeling that is hard to describe completely but I would appreciate any thoughts or how I should pursue further treatments etc. Thank you!

When was your most recent CT scan? The pulsating that you're describing is very similar to what I felt when I had an ano-rectal (sp?) abscess (located just above my anus). Nothing was visible from the outside, but the abscess caused my entire abdominal region to pulse and throb. It was so painful I couldn't localize the pain enough to tell my doc exactly where or what my problem was. If it's been a while since your last CT scan, I might ask for another and have them focus on your abdomen AND rear end. Sometimes these things are overlooked when they don't have a visible fistula from the intestine on an abdominal screening.

My symptoms are definitely improving on my current routine, but I'm still setting up an appointment for food allergy testing. My mother has very bad food allergies, and she is in a perpetual state of constipation and pain when she doesn't stick to her diet. I have the opposite problem (too much diarrhea), so it took me a while to suspect food allergies. Since your daily symptoms are similar to my mom's - you might think about being tested for food allergies. It is my understanding from other posts that there is now some type of blood test that can analyze 93 different allergies/sensitivities. Something to think about, anyway.

I'm so sorry you're in so much pain! But, you should never feel like you're wasting the doc's time. Remember, technically he is YOUR employee - YOU pay HIM. So, make him work for you like anyone else would that was receiving a fat check. Problems like this seem to create guilty feelings in many of us, when there is absolutely no reason for it. And, if you don't feel like your doc is on the ball and getting things figured out - you should seek out a second opinion. Remember - they're all employees interviewing for the job of making YOU feel better.

I hope you find some answers soon! And welcome to Healingwell!

Wow, I can't believe the pulsating feeling you are having because I have been putting up with this same feeling for about two months and I seriously thought I was imagining it already. Sometimes it is soooo painful I feel like pulling my hair out!!When it is really bad I soak in a warm bath or sit on my heating pad. I am due to see my GI in two weeks and I am definaltely going to get this checked out. If you find something out please let me know. Take Care
