Hello all! My son is 13 and was diagnosed with crohn's in Sept 07. He has been weaning off of Pentasa and takes Boswellia as well as several vitamins/supplements. We also have taken gluten and most dairy out of his diet. He seems to be thriving which is very good news.

One small, okay two small problems... he has two smallish patches of red/purply rash, one on each of his outer thighs. They have been there for about 3 months. Not itchy, one is slightly raised, and a little scaly when you scratch it. The other one is completely flat, but it has grown a little bit. It was the size of a quarter, and now is the size of a loonie (Canadian eh!, for you south of me, a prune size sort of). They seem to have defined boundaries and are not exactly round, more rectangularish in shape. Not painful, just bothersome.

We have tried oil of oregano, hydracortisone and are now trying tea tree oil.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of them? We go see the naturopath next week, and I will definitely be asking her what to do.

Don't have any suggestions for you on the patches. Have you taken him to the doctor? Maybe psoriasis or exema (sp?). I will be interested in hearing what it is.

And welcome to Healingwell too!!!

We will be going to see the GI specialist in January. Unfortunately, doctors and hospitals are some of the things my son tries to avoid - mostly because they haven't been the most positive experience over the past year. Working on an attitude change!

Probably should go though

Went to Naturopath yesterday. She thinks it is something fungal, and has recommended using tea tree oil 2x daily. He was so relieved! Strange how we think that every little problem is related to his Crohn's now... who knows maybe it is? Better to be safe than sorry later.
