Hi,
I went to my Gi doctors office for another Remicade infusion. It went well for me. I have been on Remicade for
5 years now. After my infusion I talked with my doctor about stopping the remicade. I have an outstanding
balance with the office of $5000.00 My insurance pays alot I am tired of always having a balance. i make a $100.00 a month payment to the office. they now want $200.00 a month. so the best thing for me is to stop the Remicade all together.

Oh, Teddy, think carefully. If the Rem has kept you well for five years, it's quite a risk to stop it...

Is there any way you can talk to your doctor about the financial aspect? Would they be willing to make some kind of exception and let you continue to make your $100 payments? Blessings, Julie

I'm facing the same issues with Humira and the shots cost $750 e-o-week. I guess I'll have to cut out something else, like groceries.

Retired male in late 60's. Perforated Colon in 92. Diagnosed as Ulcerative Colitis in 93. Uncontrolled flareup in 97 dictated J-pouch surgery. 04 Capsule endoscopy diagnosed as Crohns not UC. Emergency surgery in 05 to remove lodged camera capsule. Biopsies positively diagnosed Crohns at that time. 12/06 Unsucessfully tried Naltrexone(LDN). 2/07 developed scleritis of the eye, tearing and detaching the retina. Treated with high doses of Prednisone. 6/07 Thought eye was healing and started taking Entocort counting on the residual (non-systemic portion) as treating the eye. Wrong. In October eye was not stabilized. 11/07 Started Remicade to try and reduce the ocular inflamation of the Scleritis since I had been requiring more and more Prednisone to keep the eye quiet. 12/07, retina tares and detaches again. Started Remicade every 4 weeks plus 20mg of Prednisone per day. Six months and seven infusions later, good eye is back to 20/14. Bad eye is 20/70. Had cataract surgery on June 05 on bad eye. Eye returned to a correctable visionary level of 20/50. 11/08 had reaction to Remicade; trying to keep going with Imuran and Pred. Need corrective eye surgery and fitted for prism lense to correct that eye from turning out.  Life looks fairly good (literally) today.
Married with 4 grandkids.

Hi Teddy,

I just got started on Remicade, had two infusions, and I am concerned about my bill as well. The billing office gave me the contact information for a foundation that can help pay for Remicade, if you qualify--I really hope it is ok to mention this on here! If not, I sincerely apologize!

I honestly feel like Remicade has helped me out so far. I already feel better and have more energy. I fear not being able to get it in the future, due to the high cost.

If you want, go ahead and email me. Like I said, I don't know the rules and I sincerely hope I have not broken any and I apologize!

Best of luck, Teddy!

Teddy please look into the Centicor program that pays for copays. You have been doing so well! The office has been kind enough to let you run a balance. I know it is frustrating but your health is more important! Give it some thought and mess with your budget and see if you can scrape out another $100 a month.

I only say that because something got screwy with one of my student loans and I randomly had to start paying $120/month even though I still have another semester left. Then my other loan company lost some financial backing and I have to pay the interest while in school ($70/month). I started freaking out thinking there was no way we could afford it while I am barely working part-time but once I messed with my budget with my husband and put ourselves on a strict allowance we realized we would be fine.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

I think there must be another solution than your being forced to pay double the amount you've been paying...are there any contract papers you might be able to use in your defense? Something just doesn't sound right...
