My study researcher is out of office (I'm in a clinical study, ABT-874).  Might call the GI, but being the holidays...I'm not sure..

My face has broken out in a bit of a rash.  And, one of my coworkers has noticed me scratching more....  I do have a dry patch on my inner thigh too...  Being cold weather, I thought that it was just dry skin, but the rash on my face seems to be spreading..

I haven't changed any soaps or anything and quite honestly, I'm not allergic to anything...

Does this sound like a reaction to maybe the clinical?  Going to call my family practioner, I think all I can really take is benadryl...

Nope...

I picked up some Benadryl. I'm noticing it spreading throughout my entire face. It's itching too. IF I've been getting the drug, I would have received the same dose the last 3 times. Thing is, I've noticed my frequency cut down but NOT my pain. So PART of me thinks I MIGHT be getting the drug (but it's the induction period and NO ONE knows who is getting what except the pharmaceutical) and this MIGHT be what's causing it. This is WEIRD... The only medicine I've added in the past few weeks is hydrocloriathiazide for my blood pressure....I never even had an allergic reaction to Remicade... so hmm....this is just more then dry skin, though when I think back to when it REALLY started, it FELT like dry skin... and since it's really cold and dry, it did NOT surprise me...

Any other ideas? I know biologics can sometimes cause allergic reactions, so that is why I'm cluing into to ABT-874. Again, I emailed the researched and phoned my family practioner. But, will probably call the GI tomorrow (though I doubt they are in) or either wait it out until Friday unless it gets worse before then...

Might sound weird, but would a rapid taper off Pred cause this? I wouldn't think so, but weirder things have happened!

Um...here's the best advice I give for an allergic reaction like that. DON'T ITCH IT!!! Grew up with allergies like ya wouldn't believe...and that's the best thing I can tell ya. If you can breath fine and no swelling of throat/tongue then don't itch it or go to the ER or anything like that. Use cool compresses wrapped in a soft cloth that won't irritate the rash. Benadryl works but dernit...I can't remember what the cream stuff is that you can rub on it other than benadryl. Check your pharmacy and explain the itching...could be that you came INTO contact with something that caused it.

Currently trying to figure out hip and knee joint pain.
Have lost in these surgeries: appendix, 8 in. intestine, R fallopian tube, gallbladder, 10 in. intestine

Pentasa (and much mental screaming)

Trying to hang in there until January so I'll have some insurance and can visit a rheumy, neuro, GI, primary, pain control, and possibly a shrink so I could stop crying and living in my own lil pity party. :-P

Same trial here in chicago.

Are you in it?

Joie - THanks for the info.  It's not TERRIBLY itchy and I've not scratched it much at all.  My coworker just caught me scratching elsewhere, so that's what got me to take a little more notice...

My face is just kind of splotchy with a few dry patches now... almost like eczema...  I wonder if it's autoimmune induced eczema...  I've had a spot on my shin before that they pretty much thought was that...
