i am on humira biweekly, and daily 5 mg of pred. i have been in a flare for the last few weeks, despite humira. has anyone ever had their flare resolve without having to take new or more meds? my symptoms are classic, abd pain, boating, frequent very thin stools and arthritis. no fever. i am hoping that it will just go away- has that ever happened to anyone?

Hi Survivor,

A couple of years ago I ended up in ER and was admitted to hospital for a few days. While I was there they gave me iv pred, antibiotics and sent me home with my usual script for Asacol. A few weeks went by and I wasn't feeling much better. My GI called me in for an office visit and informed me that they weren't doing enough for me and he wanted me to start taking Imuran. He wrote out the script. I went to fill it, balked at the price and went home without it. When I got home I looked it up on the computer. The side effects not only scared me skinny....but within two days I was feeling just fine. Stayed on the Asacol, watched what I ate and didn't need the Imuran.

I think I was scared into spontaneous remission. Seriously. I was feeling so lousy until the Imuran event. So, I guess it can happen.

Anything is possible but if you're feeling that bad you should ask your doc about taking more pred for now to get it under control

she doesn't want me on pred- says i might get an abcess. however, she is unable or unwilling to offer an alternative, including increasing the humira to weekly. i think that i am starting myself on pred if i don't feel better tomorrow. this has been pretty bad, and she doesn't want to see me for 2 months.

That's the first I've ever heard of a doc wanting to avoid giving pred due to possibly getting an abcess, I'm afraid I don't see the reasoning in that advice at all.

i would start looking for a new doctor if urs says that she doesnt want to see u for 2 months. u might need a 2nd opinion or a doctor who knows about more treatment options
