hello again

My husbands surgery was dec.9 and today (dec.25) was his first day taking NO prednisone!!!! Yay!! He is feeling pretty good, but we've noticed a few things:

--Night sweats
--Some pain while urinating (not burning, just "intense" feeling, as he puts it)
These both started several months ago, when he started 60mg of prednisone. We thought they'd go away after the surgery and/or the prednisone

So, I guess my questions are:
1. How long do the side effects of prednisone last after you taper? (he was down to 5mg 2 wks ago, then 2.5 now DONE!)

2. Did you notice either of these after your resection surgery (his was of his sigmoid colon)?

Thanks for your help!!

after surgery your body is weak.. it can take up to 2 years to fully recover some drs say.. the seats may be from a UTI which may be from the catheter placed for surgery. hence the burning when he goes.. i would have that checked out before blaming prednisone..

as for prednisone itself, depending on how long and how much , his pharmacist should supply him with a card to carry in his wallet for 1 year. the effects are long reaching . if he were in an accident etc... they may have to give him steroids to compensate for the bodys inability to rapidly respond to the trauma.. please ask his dr about these questions.

Thanks Randy. I appreciate your input!! We'll ask the doc about the prednisone card. I figured, since he was off it we didnt need to worry about it anymore. I shoulda known!
