It's been three weeks (two weeks out of hospital) and things have been going well. But today, I found noticeable blood in my stool. I've been on 40mg Prednisone with 1000mg Pentasa and all was going well. No cramps, just bloody stool. I am concerned, but I don't want to over-react. Today I upped the Prednisone to see if that would help. No stools in several hours now, had Christmas dinner, waiting to see what is next. Any feedback would be appreciated. I am concerned, as is my wife. Thanks in advance.

Yes I agree you might want to put a call into the doc. I also think it was wise that you increased the Pred some. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Good luck!

I think you've done everything you're able at this point. I agree that calling the doctor as soon as you can would be a step in the right direction. I suppose there isn't really much else that can be said except don't overdo it and keep us updated!

Updated info, I contacted my GI doc, he was out of town until January, but another doc checked my files, and recommended:
up Prednisone from 40mg/day to 60mg twice a day
Up Pentasa from 1000mg/day to 1000mg 4X per day
I'm to watch the stool, if still bloody in two days, go to ER. Hopefully this will help. Thanks for all.

Update with new brief flare up. After going from Dec26-28 with no problems, only one stool, good appetite, no cramps, some gas, late on Dec29 I started to pass some blood as the food started coming through my system. Other info: been taking it real easy, eats 2500cal/day of digestible food, stay on high med levels. Then from 7-9 I was setting up a new tv system for the football games (I love my football) and I got quite frustrated for about an hour when some problems arose (I know frustration is stress = bad). This coincided with my stools starting, then the blood flowing. Also, at 9 I got hungry for energy and had 6 ounces of ice cream, but after half of it, it did not taste right and I quit eating it. Is ice cream good or bad for me? From 9-3am I had about 5 stools, progressing from semi-solid to all liquid, with noticeable blood content. I took and extra 40mg Prednisone and just tried to take it easy. After 3am the stools stopped and I got a little sleep. Got up at 7am, took my meds, had a muffin with a little peanut butter, water to drink, and have had one stool since. I'll probably call GI doc to catch him up and see his recommendation. Any input from experience would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Please talk to your doc before taking any extra Pred in these times. I think you are on a pretty high dose already and then adding another 40 mg could be problematic.

10pm update. Condition has stabilized nicely during the day. Had 2 stools since 9am, some blood, not nearly as much. Been focusing on getting energy levels back up by eating easily digestible food, several intakes a day. The nurse for the 3rd GI doc called twice today (after I called in am), first to relay the doc's first advice, then again to check in for followup info. For once, I was given some diet advice that might help. She advised to avoid anything that would thin the blood (take only Tylenol), avoid alcohol, TylenolPM is ok, diet soda is ok. Been eating pasta, chowder, bean dip, shrimp, muffin. Feel much better tonight, just a couple of small cramps, no gas yet. If I have any dizziness I'm to check in. My next GI appt is a week away with regular doc, so that's the next step. Hopefully all will settle down for a week. Avoid stress, eat frequent digestible meals, watch myself and get my strength back. Thanks to all for you input. The GI doc is checking to see if I can tolerate Imuran, hopefully something with help with this.
