shakehead  Well have been in a flare for a while now. Last month was hospitalized with severe pain. My doc did a colanoscopy and found active Chrons and a large ulcer. He told me that my only hope was Remicade. Well 8 days after my first infusion of remicade ended up in the ER with severe join pain in shoulder and then in jaw. They said my white blood count was 18000 (high) was hospitalized. The next day was seen by a rumatoligist and told I had serium sickness (ellergic reaction to the Remicade) Well now seems like sergery is inevitable for me. See  my GI Tuesday to know for sure. Well had a resection in 2000 Spent 3 weeks in the hospital. They had to open me all the way up (27 stiches) and was a rough recovery. Well they say things have improved alot, even sometimes can do the sergery by laproscope. Well my question is, has anyone been able to have it this way, If so how long was the hospital stay, and recovery after? Also for those not so lucky (like me last time) what is the estimated stay these days and after hospital how long to recoved before returning back to work and life? I am ready to get the sergery and get it over with, but because of last one a bit scard. I have such a tolerance to pain meds that after my hysterectomy I was in such pain, they were not able to get the medicine to take away the hurt. This worries ne alot. If I could I would tell the Dr. to keep my under for a while after sergery so I don't wake with the pain. Well any advice???????????????
Diagnoced with Crohn's in 1999.  Battling with it up and down ever since. Resection of my Terminal Ilium in 2000. Meds seem to change alot lately. But have been on predizone, endacort, pentasa, remicade, 6-mp, also do B-12 injection every month.( 2008 ) Well now they say I have IBS also, took me off pentasa, took away my B-12 injections, put me on Fiber.  Still take the 6-MP for the Chrons now taking 4 green pills a day for the IBS. Can it get anyworse If Chrons was not bad enough now I have IBS also............Having more troule with the IBS lately. Chrons seems to be in remission, so far........

I had surgery to remedy crohns and colon cancer, you revover pretty quickly. make sure to get it done lapriscopically, reduces your hospital stay and recovery time drastically. And dont worry youll be on morphine when you wake up so youll be to out of it to care about anything :)

I have had two resections myself. Suggestions are to talk to your doc about either an epidural for pain control or a pain pump. I got the pain pump and it really helped to be able to dispense my pain meds as I needed them instead of having to wait for a nurse to come in. Also, some have had good luck with the epidural's. I didn't becuz it wasn't placed right. Also, try to walk as much as possible as soon as you can as it helps to wake up the bowels. I had to have open surgeries for both, because I had too much scar tissue. I seem to be one of the people who develop alot of adhesions after surgery. I will tell you the second surgery was easier because I knew what to expect. I pray your surgery brings you to a long long remission. Oh I was in the hospital 8-10 days each time because I got an infection in my incision each time. I think that was becuz my surgeon didn't have me to a prep beforehand. (My opinion).

Good luck

Crohn's Gal--I don't think your B12 should have been discontinued if you've had your TI removed...you may want to ask what the reasoning was.

I agree. The GI doctor that I had when I had y first resection said I would be on the B-12 shots for the rest of my life. But new GI doctor says B-12 levals are ok and I don't need it...........IDK?????????
