I tried the standard treatment with prednisone and azathioprine, but when I went off the prednisone I got really sick and vomited violently for hours on the azathioprine. So, I am now trying cimzia. Second dose was a week ago, go to the monthly soon. No side effects to note, but as I taper off the prednisone, the Crohn's symptoms return. Cramps and loose stool, need to get to toilet. No blood yet. I went back on the prednisone (40mg). I was shocked how quickly my body responded to the reduction/retaking of prednisone.

Am I to be taking this steroid stuff forever?
I see a lot of mention of prednisone, and taking stuff to help your bones.
I guess my never being sick a day in my life was just over active white cell production.
I attacked my self while feeling invincible. Irony abounds.

This has been humbling.
So far, I don't know if the Cimzia is working.

I think the test will be going off the steroid and seeing how I fare. So far, I may have jumped the gun.
Meet with GI doc in a few weeks.

I can't seem to find out which foods affect me badly. I think the prednisone masks the symptoms. I am unsure how to proceed. Should I just wait a few months, then go off the steroids once the Cimzia is completely in my system?

Am I destined to be taking prednisone forever?

I know some seem to find it hard to taper off the pred what kind of taper are you doing ? Yes crohn's people are pron to osteo so we take calcium and pred. can soften sometimes in the hips and knees. Foods that I syay away from are corn, nuts ,raw veggies and fruit except bananas ,seeds, peppers, whole wheat, turnip. I am sure others will be along to help, some cain't tolerate milk and others can, I seem to do ok on it. lol gail

Yes you may have jumped the gun. No you wont be on pred forever. Try to give the Cimzia a few months to see if it works for you.
Dx'ed in 1999. No surgeries.

Current meds: 25mg Methotrexate. 12.5mg prednisone. Udo's Choice Probiotics (30 billion).

Tried SCD, didn't work, now avoiding gluten and dairy.
