I have had crohns for 4 year but only read, don't post much. The problem is with my husband. He has been found to be positive for lynch syndrome(our youngest daughter is also positive and all clear of any issues at this time). Being positive gives him an 82% chance of getting colon cancer. While knowing this can be a blessing, because they can watch you very carefully and you may never have any issues because of this nasty gene. He has has had 5 pre-cancerous pylops and they now say that he also has colitis. After seeing 2 gastros and a top colorectal surgeon in Rochester he has been told that his best chance to stay cancer free is to have his colon out. So here is where I need the help, they will be removing the colon and taking the small intestine, bringing it down and attaching it to the rectum. This will be done by laperscopic surgery. He really is hoping that someone will be able to tell us what he can expect as far as how his bowel movements will be after the surgery. We do know his new normal will take uo to a year. He wants to know if his bowels will be loose and how often and if there is an urgency with all of this. We will be seeing the surgeon again before surgery and I am sure he can answer all of our questions but we do not see him again until the beginning of March shortly before surgery but I was hoping to be able to help give him some answers to some of his questions. Any help you can give would be wonderful. Thanks and I am sorry this was so long.

Hey, ask the ostomy board people too, some of them might also be more familiar with your question and good luck...wishing you both the best!
