Hi all

I have been suffering with diarreah for a week now with servere stomach pain/cramps. Going up to 10 times at night & day. I have lost about 2 stone and when i thought about it people have been telling me i have been losing weight over the last month! i cannot even keep dry toast in me.

Dr has signed me off for a week and sent off a stool sample thinking i may have food poisioning?  had no vomiting

I have had IBS for years now but i have never had any tests DR just persumed based on my info?  This included bloating and nausea and mainly lose urgent stools.

Before Christmas i had a lower appetite and kept feeling faint/dizzy! I am always tired and have been for years! I often get tears round my bottom hole which bleed and cause me pain!

I have been smoking for the last couple of months so wondering if this could have flared something up?

Do you think this could be Crohns it is def not what i feel when sufering IBS or just a bug that wont go away? how long should i leave it before i ask for more tests?

Any advice welcome thanks

I agree with MMMNavy that you should ask to have a scope done I started my long trail of bowel problems with IBS to and getting a scope would be of good help to you .You might have some fissures going on there. lol gail

I agree with the other comments made here.  Having a colonoscopy is the gold standard for getting a good look to see if there are any problems.  In my opinion, IBS should never be diagnosed until all other possible causes of symptoms are ruled out.

Good luck, and hope you decide to get further testing.

Have had Crohn's of terminal ileum for 8 yrs, but finally accepted diagnosis when it was confirmed Feb. 2008.

Allergic/hypersensitivity to Pentasa, Entocort, and now 6-MP!  I had started Mercaptopurine on 7/23/08, but had to stop on 8/7 due to it causing E. Nodosum with flu-like symptoms.  VERY RARE causation!!

I'll be a broken record and I say I definitely agree with everyone else. At this point, it's probably the best you can do. It's best to have a proper diagnosis with some closure anyway so you can start attacking these symptoms and begin the healing process.

I agree on all the above. Stop Smoking! This is the absolute worst thing you can do to flare yourself.

by definition, diarrhea is not considered chronic until you have suffered constantly for at least three weeks. I would be inclined to suspect food poisoning and only if tests are negative and symptoms persist would I move on to more aggressive investigations.

thanksfor you replies!! I need to post again as feeling very upset from being so ill!!

two weeks and 1 day now with diarreah (up to 15 times a day) awful pain and still cant eat!! which is now causing nausea and headaches.

stool sample for food posioning infection came back clear so have begged dr to do more tests. He has taken blood but wont do anything else unless they show something! i find out next week.

His words they will show an inflamed bowel anyway at the moment so will have to retake when diarreah stops!

not smoked for 10 days now. and need to get better as nans funeral is on friday.

been giving codeine but makes me feel worse.

just at the end of my tether as no energy.
