These are other brand names of hyoscyamine which is what Levsin is generically called: Anaspaz, Cystospaz, Donnamar

Are these not available too?

Why isn't Levsin available? I have a rx for it, I haven't heard anything about it not being available.

this was posted on the IBS board awhile ago. The company just decided to stop making it. I guess it wasn't profitable enough. It would be nice for the Gov't to step in and say that they can't just stop making a med people need to live a normal life - but I guess that would fly in the face of capitalism - and the fact that health care is subject to the free market economy.

I don't use mine very often so I haven't had to refill in awhile. I just called around and found a pharmacy that still had some when I last refilled.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

GOOD NEWS!!!

I just called my pharmacy to get some clarification on the issue, and I was told that most (but NOT all) of the drug companies quit making hyoscyamine as it's not a popular medication, thus there was no money in it.  Now for the good news----a company called Aristos Pharmaceuticals still makes it (I only asked about the sublingual 0.125 mg), so hopefully your local pharmacy can order it.

Hi all,

Just a bit more info about the currently available hyoscyamine SL 0.125 mg.  As I'd mentioned previously, the name of the manufacturer is "Aristos".  They are calling the product "HyoMax-SL".  I sent an e-mail to the manufacturer just to make sure that they're still making it, and they are, and they said they have no plans of discontinuing it.  HOORAY!

Further research (because I like to get at the bottom of things) seems to indicate that a major drug manufacturer had been making several different drugs (including a hyoscyamine time-release product) that had NOT been approved by the FDA, or were not being made according to the "Current Good Manufacturing Practice CGMP".  At that time, there were several other drug manufacturers that VOLUNTARILY recalled several of their pharmaceuticals including hyoscyamine.  If you're curious and want to read further, here are a couple of websites that explain the whys.  Who knows---maybe in the future these companies will start producing it again.  So.....maybe it wasn't about not-making-enough-profit afterall!!
