Horrendous nausea beginning at 4am this morning, but I've only been able to dry heave. Have not had a BM for two days, though have passed a little bit of gas (though mostly burping). Have been able to eat, but definitely getting a little distended. The nausea will not let up.

I would just pass it off as a bug or stomach flu if were not for the lack of BMs...I'm usually at least twice a day...However, not feeling much pain. A bit in the lower left side, but I usually have little stabs there.

Just confused...and to top it all off I had to start classes today. If still no BM by the morning, will definitely call doc, but was just curious in the meantime...

Thanks gail! Yeah my symptoms don't seem severe, just worried about my constipation. Just picked up some prune juice from the store--yuck.

Hi,

When I had a partial obstruction, I also had nausea, some dry heaving and/or vomiting, and some burping.  Didn't seem to be able to pass any gas.  Also had abdominal pain.

Is your pain constant?

Not having much pain--mostly only when I eat. And I have been able to pass bits of gas, though more burping I think. But now 3 days with no BM. Nausea is better, just a little though.

I'm very annoyed-called the doc first thing today. Eventually spoke to a nurse who was going to relay my info to the doc...but he never called back! Starting to get worried, though I know having little pain is a good sign...

Sounds like an obstruction if you are distended. Get your doc to refer you to ER and have them do a scope. Sorry to say it, but way better than a rupture.

If the pain starts to come in waves much like labor pains, get your butt to the ER because you could possibly have a obstruction. I use stool softners alot and they really help to soften the stool up so I can pass it. Good luck and big hugs!!

Any recommendations for a good brand of stool softeners?

Miralax is fairly gentle & quite quick working. However, if you have more symptoms of an obstruction, which would include,
severe gastric pain, no bowel sounds or if you should start to vomit fecal fluid ( nasty substance, that stinks to high heaven)
then please do not put anything else into you stomach, especially stool softners, this can make matters much worse...
If you are in any doubt, and your pain & distension is getting worse, I would head to the ER.

Best of luck.

Thanks vicky. That is very helpful. My pain is not bad, and I am starting to pass more gas. Im beginning to think it's more of an awful case of constipation, and it just happened to coincide with the flu bug. I have not yet thrown up thank goodness.

mkl11,

Do you have Crohn's of the small intestine, or Crohn's of the large intestine, or both??  I ask because I just looked something up and the symptoms of obstruction of the small bowel are different from obstruction of the large bowel.

Hi mkl11,

A BIG hand-clap for you.  Glad to hear you're having some progress, and hope the Dulcolax helps even more!

For future reference, here are two articles with some GREAT information about the symptoms of intestinal obstruction.

Good luck!

Thanks Blossom!

I just had an epiphany...over my break home I ate A LOT of bananas. And not very ripe ones. This must be the cause...
