I was first put on with for 8 weeks: 3 pills for 6 weeks, 2 pills for 1 week, and 1 pill for 1 week. I see on Entocort's site that they have other options for continuing remission:

Oral dosing recommendations for ENTOCORT EC
Indication Dosage Duration
For induction 9 mg once daily -
(three 3-mg capsules each morning) Up to 8 weeks with repeated 8-week courses as necessary

Induction dosing
For maintenance of
clinical remission 6 mg once daily
(two 3-mg capsules each morning) Up to an additional 3 months
Maintenance dosing
Entire dosing cycle of induction and maintenance can be given for recurring episodes of active disease
27m - Dx January 2005 and given 80mg Prednisone to taper off and 12 tablets of Asacol
Normal medication: 12 tablets of Asacol daily

I was put on it for the same dosage as you, but then after going off and getting sick again I was put back on it for another 8 weeks. For me, it's really worked well with very few side effects. I am afraid to go off it again. Good luck!

As soon as I started it, my pain went away. The only problem was with blood though. Not sure if it is from my hemhorroids, colon, or because of my antibiotics (tetracycline). I plan on getting a substitute for tetracycline soon. So, maybe this issue will get resolved.

BTW, what was going on with you before you were on Entocort? I had blood in my stool and pain in my stomach area.

NostraHistoria,
Thanks for that information. I've been on and off Entocort for a few years at various dosages (3-6 mg) and would hate to have to stop it. It's been helpful for me, although I always wondered about long term usage even tho my doctor doesn't seem to be concerned. Hope you get the bleeding problem resolved.

The bleeding is getting me so, so down. Everyday for about 6 months I have had blood. Yes, no joke. I hopefully will get my hemmhorroids removed and a substitute for tetracycline.

I am wondering how long you go on Entocort. How long does your doctor put you on it? What were your symptoms before you were put on it? If you had blood, how long did it take for the blood to go away after using Entocort?

Sorry for being nosy. I really want this blood to go away.
