What is 6 mp ?? What meds does it take the place of ?? My dr wants to put me on remicade and I really dont want to ... I took it for 3 years in the past and the more I took it i became allergic to it .... so I was wondering if 6mp was something like remicade ??

I'm no expert, still fairly new. I noticed that you've taken Imuran, and from what I've been told, 6MP is very much the same drug, with some slightly different tolerances.
My daughter was diagnosed Feb. 19/07, (13 yrs. old at time of diagnosis), with Crohn's of the Terminal Illium. Initially, 9 weeks of Prednisone, currently taking 2000mgs of Pentasa.

Imuran metabolizes into 6MP in the body. Some people that cannot tolerate Imuran can tolerate 6MP.

If you had allergic reactions to Remicade, why isn't your doctor suggesting something like Humira? Humira is a biologic, the same class of med that Remicade is. Lots of people here that took Remicade in the past are using or have used Humira.

Watch being allergic to Humira too. After a few infusions of remi I had a serious allergic reaction (tight chest). My Doc decided to try Humira because it uses human DNA rather the mouse (remi). But he was very cautious and thank the Lord for it!! He only gave me one pen (rather than the typical 4 pen loading-dose for CD). Three days later --- hives!!! So now I am on 6MP and doing well. It is an older drug and well studied. It isn't as successful as remi or humira at healing fistulas but it does cool down inflammation.

Take care.
Diagnosed early 2007 with rectal Crohn's.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulas with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP.
