I have a doctors appt today for my painful ovarian cyst that is painful about once a month ever since My visit to the ER on 8/23/08. The pain is so horrible i am stuck in bed and am not able to go to work or school ( im in college ) when it is acting up. My old doctor told me to take birth control pills but gave me nothing for the excruciating pain! I asked her to give me pain meds and all she said was 'oh. we dont do that here.' She had no compassion whatsoever and ws just in a hurry for our appt to be over. The BC pills did not work, the cyst still comes back, and i do not like being on BC pills. I think it is UNNATURAL to make it so that you do not ovulate. id rather just have something to enable me to deal with the pain. Does anyone else have advice for me ?

I'm sorry you are in so much pain. Is it possible for you to change doctors to someone who's practice is more in line with the way you would like your treatment to go? Or do you have restrictions on you because of your insurance?

I can't really help on the B/C issue really cause that was the way both my daughter and I chose to treat our exceptionally painful periods. Hers were more so than mine and in fact her pediatric reproductive specialist gave her pain meds as well as B/C. So in my experience you should be able to have one or the other or both. She has prescription strength naproxen sodium 550mg that she takes every 8 hours (I think) for 3 days before her period starts and then through her period. That may not be strong enough for you, but at least it gives you some place to start a conversation.

I'm guessing you've had it looked at and everything... Is the cyst bigger than it normally should be? If that's the case, I'm surprised the doctor hasn't suggested a laproscopy to remove it... Especially if its so painful... Could be infected, too..

I had to have a mass taken out on my right ovary... and they ended up having to take out the ovary and phillopian tube, too, because everything was so infected and sticking together and whatnot...
I think I am being picked on by life, sometimes. But's that okay. Life and I are good buddies... I know life doesn't mean no harm. It just is the way it is. I can accept that.

I have Endometriosis and sometimes get ovarian cysts with that.

i have been taking Cerazette witch is a mini pill. That stops your monthly bleeding. And you should be free from all pain from that pill.

I works wonders for me, and it is ok to skip your period because the bleeding you have when you are on the regular pill is just fake, you donĀ“t ovulate.

I would recommend Cerazette ..

I also have Endometriosis and have had 3 cysts. Sometimes being on the pill is the only way to treat the cysts, although you should have something for the pain. Personally I could not live without being on the pill - without it my body goes nuts and I get really sick. Good luck to you!

Well...they removed my right fallopian tube. And during the last surgery...they were worried about the "cyst" and haha, turned out to be an abscess that needed to be scraped off my ovary.
27/f/CD. 4 CD related surgeries: 2 resections, 2 JP drains, 3 NG tubes, many absesses (including the one my most recent surgery scraped off my ovary) and fistulas.
Currently trying to figure out hip and knee joint pain.
Have lost in these surgeries: appendix, 8 in. intestine, R fallopian tube, gallbladder, 10 in. intestine
Crohns Dx'd: February 2008.
Pentasa (and much mental screaming)

Trying to hang in there until January so I'll have some insurance and can visit a rheumy, neuro, GI, primary, pain control, and possibly a shrink so I could stop crying and living in my own lil pity party. :-P
