Many of you know I'm following pain management with my surgeon because I'm still not under control and off steroids for a host of reasons.

Anyway, my question is this: Is there something else available besides 7.5 hydrocodone to 325 acetametaphine? It's not the acetametaphine I'm worried about, but the hydrocodone. Loratab is 7.5/500. The reason I'm asking is I've been on them since July, and they are wearing their effectiveness off, which scares me to death, but I don't know how to function. I can take 3 Norco (7.5/325) every 6 hours on a bad day, which I have had to do twice today. I just don't care for narcotics, but I don't know what else I can do.

Guess I need to call the docs again. I see my GI in a week and my surgeon in about 3 more weeks.

It's been a few years since I was going through pain-med problems, but from what I remember, Tramadol (Ultram) was a god-send for me. I had several surgeries back-to-back and got to the point where all the "regular" codones and darvocets and such were not working because I was building up a tolerance.

Maybe ask your doc about Tramadol/Ultram?

I hope you feel better soon!

Tramadol/Ultram is an option, but will tell you that it personally is very hard on my stomach. Really makes me sick. I am now taking Percoset for my pain, but I only use 1/2 tab at a time and of course my pain level is not quite as high as yours, but thats another option. Good luck!

patientspiders & Nanners - Thanks! I'm going to mention this to my surgeon and see what he says about it. I'm sure it's capable of being dependent upon too, but I wonder if it wouldn't *Help* me to go on that and get off the hydrocodone and then start to wean down the other? No idea. I wait until I hit a 3 before I take it, because once I get to 3, I usually rapidly hit 5. Ever since July, the nurses made me promise not to go past 3 and I've noticed when I'm true to myself they are correct. I usually let the pain get out of control and then I end up crying in the ER waiting room. I have a little girl that needs me so I cannot do that. But, I do NOT like how 3 Norco make me feel. I don't get much relief from 2, so I tried 3 and I'm loopy and lightheaded and just not me. I thought about trying 2 1/2 and see where that gets me as well.

I hate this! I just want to be in remission and not have to worry about this junk all the time :?
