For the last year, my legs have been swelling up.   Here are my symptoms
* can only eat certain foods or I get diarrehea
* both legs swelled up constantly
* sleeping a lot...often fall asleep very easily even at the computer
* this week I just now have gotten bladder aches (if I sit up right, the pressure on my bladder makes it uncomfortable)
That's about all of my symptoms.  I hate going to the doctor.  I've never went to the doctor for this.  What scares me most is my legs swelling.  I'm scared of dying.
I'm 32 yrs old.

Hi Morph,

Try not to scare yourself. Your symptoms can be caused by any number of things, and even if it does turn out to be crohns - it isn't a death sentance. Most people live almost normal and active lives even with crohns disease.

Have you had any tests done? First of all I would ask to have my thyroid checked. Two of the symptoms you mention were the very thing that made me have thyroid tests. Ankle swelling and sleeping. Like you I would fall asleep sitting up. Also I would ask to be checked for celiac disease. The symptoms can often be quite like the symptoms of IBD.

Hope you get to the bottom of your troubles soon!

I agree with Pia I would get your thyroid checked. Its amazing the symptoms it can cause. Right now it doesn't sound Crohns like to me, but I would get in with your doc asap and see whats going on.

Hey Morph... I know it's scary sometimes, but I really wouldn't jump to the crohn's conclusion just yet. You've gotten some good advice so far...

--get your thyroid checked for sure
--get some allergy testing done
(I know someone who's knees swelled like mad at seemingly random times... they had her on all kinds of stuff until her doc finally had her cut wheat/gluten out of her diet... two months of a diet change and she was 100% fine, no more swelling. That's just one possibility... and not nearly as scary as crohn's!)
--don't let your doc "talk you down"... if he doesn't know what the heck is going on, don't leave until he orders a CT scan or something. You're obviously suffering, so don't let him send you home with any of that "call me if it's still bothering you in 2 weeks" nonsense.

I hope you get some relief soon!

I've had leg swelling for a year.   That didn't bother me much and was just more of an annoyance but just this week my bladder is acting weird and causing it to ache a little bit and that is really bothering me.   If I sit up right and my stomach puts pressure on it, that's when it feels uncomfortable.  It's hard to describe the feeling.  It's not a shooting pain.   I can't even describe it.   That's what really bugs me.
I'm slightly overweight.  I've never been overweight until the last 2 years and that's when a lot of my problems have started.   about age 30 is when my really problems began.   For some odd reason, I can not eat macaroni and cheese without getting stomach pains and diarrehea.  I can eat almost anything else but that.

Thyroid can also cause bowel problems.
Better get checked to prevent poss. more serious problems.

I went to the hospital. Just got back. THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH ME. I can't believe it.

I told them that I might have a bladder infection because that seems the most logical and they tested me for diabetes and took a urine sample and they found nothing. So why am I focusing so much on my bladder? Why is my bladder uncomfortable? Strange.
