Cortical refers to the outside of an organ. Atrophy means a reduction in size or wasting away of an organ or tissue. So since you had a renal ultrasound, I guess you are saying they found renal cortical atrophy or kidney surface damage. There are degrees of any damage so until you talk to your doctor, it's impossible to tell the severity of the problem.
I know you are scared. The best thing is to try not to obsess about
