I have both PKD and CD and for the last 5 months I have been having  constant right flank pain. I am in the middle of a round of predisone and it isn't relieving any of the pain.  I am having a small bowel follow through tomorrow morning. Is there anyone out there who has both diseases?

It is polycystic kidney disease. It is when cysts grow in your kidneys and in my case my liver. The cysts can affect your kidney function and cause hypertension. So far it hasn't been too bad for me. I have to limit my protein intake and take blood pressure pills. I had a cyst rupture after moving some furniture that was quite painful and I ended up in the emergency room. Eventually I'm sure I will get worse. My father had a kidney transplant at age 55 and did great by the way, no rejection at all. I am just trying to figure out if my pain and feeling ill all the time is from the cysts, which I can't do anything about, or if I am having a Crohn's related issues. My doctors just keep passing me back and forth like a ball. I had blood work done and a small bowel follow through tomorrow so hopefully this will shed some light on my current situation. I have been dealing with it for 5 months now and am getting kind of depressed knowing I am going to feel this bad the rest of my life. But then again I'm on predisone and we all know how that makes feel.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth
