Caffeine free hot tea :) Peppermint, chamomile, or throat coat(this one is wonderful for sore throats) all work well. If you have a heating pad to apply to your joints then definitely try it..and I know that there are soothing balms you can find to do this as well. All I can remember is a picture of an Indian tiger on the metal tin. And hot showers! At least I feel better when I have taken one. A lot of friends and family from places like Japan and the Ukraine say that their doctors advise them NOT to take a bath or shower when they are sick, but I've always heard the opposite here in the states.

Have you tried acupuncture for joint pain? I know it isn't quite what you were looking for. But it has been a God send for me. My Rhuemy recommended it to me, and it has helped a ton. Look for Community Acupuncture Clinic on a web search. They aren't as private, you tend to sit in lounge chairs with curtains or screens between patients, instead of in private rooms. But, I only pay $15 for an hour session. I'm not a big believer in eastern medicine, so I really didn't think it was going to work, but after a few treatments my pain went down about 75%.

The other thing I've found that helps is heating a damp towel in the microwave, (then wrap in a dry towel) and then wrapping it around my hands and wrists. Be careful that you don't burn yourself. Also those sock/tube things that are filled with rice that you microwave. Same concept. Moist heat.

I agree with LMills and Zanne, heat pads, hot showers and I like the idea of the damp towel in the microwave (thanks Zanne).
I suffer with nose sores and sore throats too.
The nose sores dont get better when you keep picking them (I would do this in my sleep - UGH) I found only vaseline to ease the dryness, but then they just healed on their own.
My sore throats I would have tablespoons of honey and that seemed to help.
Is the breathing thing maybe anxiety - not sure as I have'nt had this happen (touch wood lol)
Good luck Daisy

Acupuncture is usually much more expensive. The best price in my neck of the woods is $30.00/hour from students at an acupuncture school and it has a long waiting list. The usual price around here is more like $50.00/hour and can go much higher.

Look around for breathing exercises to reduce anxiety. I like the one where you breath in for a count of 4, hold it for a count of 7, and exhale for a count of 8. I tap my finger at a constant, slow rate so I don't speed up the breathing. After about 4 cycles, I feel much better.

Daisy,

I have had good luck with a topical ointment called Traumeel (Company name is Heel) for joint pain. I think it kept me mobile when my Crohn's arthritis flared between Thanksgiving and  Christmas. I thought I might try arnica cream or gel next, some customers of mine tell me it works fine, and it is less costly. I also use heat, but that's not so easy when you are up and around. As for the nose sores as well as mouth sores and cold sores, I find those heal far quicker when I  take probiotics and L-Lysine. I can't help with the breathing, I always chalk it up to my asthma. I agree the breathing exercises mentioned above might be helpful, whatever the cause, they are similar to ones used by respiratory therapist.

Crohn's for life, symptoms included terrible joint and soft tissue pain, just met first cousin who suffers from Reactive Arthritis-explains sooo much. Great control on SCD (when I'm good) and I get by with a lotta help from my friends!

Just wanted to add that usually acupuncture IS very expensive. But if you can find a Community clinic they run on sliding pay scales and you pay less the more you go, $15 - $35. I've done web searches and they are all over the US. Not sure about other places in the world.

Hi, I feel for ya.

Here are some suggestions:

Limit sugar and sugary foods, can add to inflammation and also cause some joint pain.
For the sore in yoru nose, I get them all the time.  What works for me is tripple antibiotic ointment.  Put a dab on the end of a Q-tip and apply to the sore.  Do that 3 times a day for a week or so or until the sore is gone.  It works for me every time.

God Bless,
Jennifer
