What a coincidence, kinda...we were thinking about this for our soon to be 16 yr old son as he wants to bulk up because he's lean like me (always have been even before CD) and he was hoping it would help him grow taller (he is taller than myself and hubby, I'm 5'5", hubby is 5'6") but he's hoping to be even taller than us than he already is...I had no idea the cost was so high though so I don't know if we'll go that route for him.

Im 5'7" and never had any issues....LOL I found a 5ft wife......

Have your son tested for HGH deficency. If he is low Insurance must pick up the bill. Mine was normal so I pay the $280.00. My goals are healing and nutrient transport in the small bowel.

The doseage for short bowel is 8mg / day. I only take 0.2mg day for "hypogonadism". It helps to complain to your dr of low sex drive, depression. This may be hard for your son. Im in the medical field so I have many resources.

No we haven't...LDN would be the same type of thing as HGH?

Just to clarify my son is only looking to bulk up he thankfully has no IBD issues and keeping fingers crossed it stays that way forever...my poor daughter on the other hand may be a different case, we'll hopefully know more about what's going on with her at the end of this month.

No responsible doctor will give HGH to a kid who wants to bulk up. He should be put in jail. Your son is only 16, he's not even done growing. Why don't you just go ahead and give him anabolic steroids? This is the most irresponsible thing I've heard.

I've been into bodybuilding for years now. Just make sure he eats more. That's the only solution. He can take protein supplements for convenience, maybe even creatine.

There's no way in the world I would give him anabolic steroids, and am offended that you would say such a thing... I'm not even convinced that giving him protein powder will be an option either because as a RESPONSIBLE parent I'm concerned about his liver with protein supplements...I'm well aware that he's not done growing but we are talking about an impatient MALE teenager too so I have to be careful with how I present him the information so he doesn't do something typically stupid like getting steroids or protein supplements from a friend or something. I'm NOT gonna give him creatine either, he doens't need issues with D when he has normal healthy functioning bowels and IBD running in his family (my CD and Grandmas UC), I wouldn't take that risk or let him take it either.

I'm sorry for offending you, but how is giving HGH any different than anabolic steroids? You do know there are a ton of side effects with HGH and it's illegal for "bulking up", right? HGH will cause more damage to his liver than protein supplements. HGH can cause enlarged organs, serious high blood pressure, and abnormal bone and cartilage growth. Just look at any pro bodybuilder.

Please show me any studies linking liver problems with protein supplements. Whey protein supplements are harmless. Whey is just derived from milk. It doesn't affect your hormones like HGH does. It's like food. Soy protein on the other hand contains phytoestrogens which can cause hormone problems in males with long-term use.

I said we were thinking about it (had to research on it first) hubby only mentioned it a few days ago which is why I said it was such a coincidence....I haven't heard that protein powders were harmless, I heard they can be hard on the liver particulalrly, infact so far I haven't heard that there's anything out there that doesn't have it consequences as far as supplementations go for building muslce...

I'll be getting him to increase his protein via foods (along with food intake), drink lots of water and take a good multivitamin rather than mess with the "supplement" for muscle garbage, it's just not worth it...at any age.

Can someone tell me what LDN is and what it does? I am new to this forum - my husband is the Crohns patient and I am always looking for things to help him.

Thanks.
My husband has Crohns and I am always looking for things to help him and make his life easier.  He is also the proud owner of osteporosis and diverticulitis.

He takes Entocort, Probiotics, vitamins (multivitamin, B complex, Omega 3, Calcium, Co-Q 10, Greens Multiplex).

First round of Remacaid helped him greatly.  Second round put him in the hospital - severe allergic reaction.  Doctor told him no more Remacaid.  Has been doing well on the Entocort but is very expensive.

LDN is Low Dose Naltrexone. Two-thirds of crohnies have gone into remission as per first study done at Penn State Hershey. Second trial in progess now. You can find a lot of information on it here

You can also sign up for the ldn yahoo group from that link to post any questions you may have.
