I have trouble off and on with my intestinal stricture. It is near the terminal illeum. I know a low~residue diet is good but does anyone know any good cookbooks or recipes/websites? I'm tired of the same soups and jellos. Thanks!

~Never officially diagnosed~
Appendectomy in 2001. Appendix perforated & gangrenous. Had pain off and on for 3 years prior. This is where all my trouble started.
Hospitalized in August 2005 with a bowel obstruction.
Colonoscopy showed definite colitis, SBFT showed narrowing of the Ileum and a possible fistula.
Both tests came back as consistent with CD.
2nd bowel obstruction February 2008. Got through it at home.
Currently not on CD meds. Following a low~residue diet and taking fish oil daily and Align probiotics daily.

I've never heard of a book of a diet specifically designed for strictures...its discussed for Crohn's in general.

In regard to strictures, its best to avoid foods that take a while to break down....fried foods, nuts, certain fruits (pinneapple is a death sentence for me), and sometimes decreasing the intake of breads.

You can sort of figure out what to eat logically, what will be difficult to pass through narrowing?

I have an excellent cookbook but it isn't for strictures per se. It is called "Cooking Well for the Unwell" by Eileen Behan. There are sections for just about any diet restriction. Low residue, Soft, Liquid, Low Sodium, Whatever you need. I have loaned it out so many times I ended up getting a second copy because I never had it when I wanted it. I got both of my copies on Amazon, used, for about $4. She is a dietitian and she really explains how to up the protein and calories for those times when we really are sick. But she also has some good ideas about how to increase your appetite and change things up so that you aren't always eating the same old, same old.

Zanne, that book sounds great.
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.
