I had a friend who got Fifth's Disease and of Course a few months later I get this rash on my face and I thought I had lupus! Then I get pain in my feet I couldn't even walk at all. It was so bad...So Now it hits me I have it too.....But I got the rash in September and it is February...I take Imuran and it is a Immunosuppressants. So I need to know if ANYBODY has ever went through this. I woke up this morning in so much pain and no amount of pain reliever is helping! Gosh... I'm calling my Doctor but I wanted to hear about other people.

I have never heard of Fifth's Disease, but definetly think you should be talking to your doc since you are on Immunesuppressants. Hope all turns out well for you.

Fifths disease is kind of like the Chicken Pox, a harmless childhood disease. I have recently learned that you are not to be on any immunosuppressants if you havent had the Chicken Pox yet. I would highly recommend that you get to your Doctor for more information about this.
My daughter was diagnosed Feb. 19/07, (13 yrs. old at time of diagnosis), with Crohn's of the Terminal Illium. Initially, 9 weeks of Prednisone, currently taking 2000mgs of Pentasa.

I have had Fifth disease twice...odd because it is a childhood disease that you are supposed to get only once (like Chicken Pox).  I am not on any immunosuppressants, but I think the weakend system of a crohns patient=more chance for these things.

Fifth disease got it's name because it is fifth in a list of childhood illnesses.  Mine did not last long, but again I have never been on immunosuppressants.  I agree with the prior posters that a call or visit to your doc is the way to go.
Dx'd '90 (emergency rupture), symptoms ignored long before that, '03 fistulas and bad flagyl reactions, B12 weekly, Pentasa [until I surrender to the bigger meds]
I'm riding on the escalator of life....

My cheeks are bright red and really warm this morning...I know I had Fifth's Disease as a child, because when I was pregnant, I was exposed to the disease and my OBGYN wanted to run a blood test to see if I had antibodies to it.

I am also concerned about Lupus because I am on Remicade.

Did you get in to see your doctor yet, elexis?  I am wondering if I should put a call in or just wait it out and see what happens.

Well I have called my G.I Who told me I have to see a Rhumatologist so I made an Appt but I don't go in til March 9 So I have a few weeks. All I know is my Feet are killing me, sometimes I'm ok But others are agony. Mornings are the worst.... I had a Resection done Nov 3,08 and the surgeon said all the pain was from the Crohn's so When the surgery was over I was hoping for my feet to recover. It was fine till about 4 or 5 days after I left the hospital it came back. I tell ya when it rains it can pour....Seems like if you have one auto-immune disease ur likely to get many more. Anyway...I'll keep ya posted! Thanks everyone for ur responses.....

Indigosunrise-I believe once u have gotten the disease u don't get it again from what I understand...So If it lasts more then a few days I'd make a call to the Dr....Remicade will bring down ur immunesystem so u have to be careful w/ illness and such which I'm sure u already know that... I hope u feel better!

Well I went to see the Rhumatologist and he had X-Rays done and Blood tests...But he says it can't be Fifth's Disease because it runs it course within a month or two...But when I questioned a person w/ a compromised immune-system he couldn't or didn't want to answer...Whatever the case my blood work came back negative for Lymes, Negative for RA Factor and Positive for Parvovirus B19...But he says it could still be RA but not show up in the x-rays and Blood work so he wanted to give me Methoxtrate and up my dose of Imuran.... I'm upset cause I waited over a month and wasted $80 copay for 2 visits......How could you treat someone for something they don't have? and not treat or deal w/ what they do have! I don't get it.....I'm surprised more people from this site hasn't replied at least the people who do have compromised immune systems...I feel like I'm crazy....

Thanks Dr G.... Actually not to long afterward I went straight to my GI and told him I wanted off the Imuran and he ok'd it cause I'm feeling great and Low and behold with in a few weeks I was feeling as good as new...I'm not one to trust a doctor because he has a degree...I want someone to hear me and try to figure out what's going on not just diagnose a very serious disease to someone who doesn't have it and worse off have me take medication I don't need...Sometimes the internet can be a lifesaver and sometimes a perfect enemy but all in all I'm my own advocate when it comes to my health I research everything I have, no matter how awful it may be....Thanks so much for your advise and input!

Fifths Disease is a virus.  It is contagious before the rash appears.  Once the rash appears, you are no longer contagious.  Since it is a virus it would need to run its course.  There is nothing to put on it or do for it to help it go away.  I had 2 cases of it in my classroom in the last few weeks.  I am 17 weeks pregnant, so I was worried since it puts a fetus at risk, but I found out I am immune to it through a blood test.  Most people get it in childhood and it's not a problem. As an adult, it can be worse, I've heard.  But it is also something you should only get once.

Diagnosed with crohn's in January 2008!
Pentasa 1000 mg 4 times a day

I am 28 years old and have been married for 3 years.  My husband and I are expecting our first child in November!
